The first would be this one. 17th green at the Old Course. Only time I played it. Bit of wind against. Good drive up the right. 2 iron onto the green. Here's me repairing the pitch mark. The ball is up on the left by the Road Hole bunker. Nailed the putt (probably 25 feet) for birdie 3 to take me back to 2 over par. It hovered on the right edge for a second then dropped. Will take that one to the grave. Birdie at the Road Hole. Get in!
The second memorable putt would be the five footer I sank at the following hole for a par. I had left my approach just short. Had to putt through the Valley of Sin and left it five foot beyond the hole. Sank it to finish with a 74. Hadn't really missed one of those all day. 3 under par for the last 12 holes. Ah.... memories. If only I could play like that again.
The last putt would be on the 18th green at Craigentinny GC. A ten footer for my first and only ever par round. A birdie for 67. That was really satisfying and I was drunk for two days afterwards.
The most satisfying ones are the ones that mean something.
A 30 foot downhiller with plenty of break for eagle on 18 at Monte Rei - if anyone has played there they will know the greens run at 11 or 12, so it was quick, quick, quick!
Little bit of turn on it, didn't fancy it much at all.
It was a club match.
He had been two up with three to play, and I'd played a near shank on the 16th. Chipped and one putted for a nett birdie. Sunk a stupid putt on the 17th to draw it level.
So we were level going down the last. A long par 4, I was short in two, and chipped to 3 feet. He was inside me for 2, but played a poor chip, & missed the par putt. I conceded his 5.
Then I was pooping myself looking at this putt on the last, I just knew I was going to miss it. There were hundreds of spectators, as it was just outside the clubhouse ( well at least 6 ). We were the away team, it was to keep us in the match.
A 15footer for a par 3 on the last to get me into the play off when I won our club champs for the first time.
I had birdied 17 to draw level with the leader, then my arse fell out on the 18th tee and I hit a shank which stayed on bounds by a yard up on a bank 30foot or so above the green. Chipped down past the pin into the fringe then boxed the 15foot right to lefter to crawl over the line.
