We've all sunk 20 footers and 12ft birdie putts and while theyre nice theyre the kind of putts your average club golfer doesnt always expect to hole so are a bonus rather than a satisfying reward.

So what would you consider your most rewarding putt? A putt from the 2nd tier? A double breaker? A 1 inch tap in that won you a comp?

The putt that most sticks out in my head was a fairly short one, probably no more than 4ft, but had about 4 inches of break halfway to the cup and was straight down a green that was almost vertical. Trusted the line, barely tapped the ball to get it started and was ecstatic when it vanished into the cup. Was only for a par on a short par 3 but what a feeling it was.

My first ever Eagle, having missed all before, so was just glad to get that Monkey off my back !!

Mine was actually a long one but memorable as it got me a birdie on our 585 yrd SI 1. Hit a good drive but poor second shot. Absolutely nailed my approach flag at the front ball at the back and a good sixty feet in between. Figured that it would break right to left about six foot from the hole. Looked like it wasn't going to succumb to the contours but as it got to the hole arced it's way and just plopped into the cup.

We have a few two tier greens at our place and I have hpled a couple down tier but I think going up is more difficult to judge. I think if I nailed any uptier putt on our 1st, 4th, 10th or 14th that would better the birdie putt.

Most rewarding putt I can remember was actually from off the green.
Years ago I was playing in the Doubles KO and we were all square after 18 and 19..
The 2nd (20th) is a long par 5 with ponds, OB, clag, ditches etc etc and 3 bunkers guarding the front of the green.
I was giving a shot to the other 3 and my partner obviously decided he'd had enough and stuck 2 balls OB - thanks Pardner!!
The other 2 hit decent drives and I'd clouted a good one too. They lay-ed up at wedge distance so I had to go for it. Creamed my 3 wood and it finished about a foot off the front of the green about 25 feet from the pin. Neither of the opponents found the green. They pitched on and as they were actually still further away than me, they putted up and were given nett par's.
So I had a 25 footer from off the green, slightly uphill, downhill then flat and a little right to left.
Nailed it dead centre for an Eagle and the win.

Last year, six footer, downhill, left to right break, on the 17th to win Winter foursomes Cup. We had two putts from 20 feet to win, and my partner suddenly decided he wanted the glory and raced the first putt past. Not the purest putt, but caught just enough of the right lip to fall in. Think if i had missed it, i would have been in no fit state to play the last.

My leftie mate would love that hole. Has a lovely shaped fade that he'd put round the edge of the trees and back down on the slope towards green. Then he'd chip and 4 putt his way to a double bogey. :D Ive not had an eagle yet, only had 3 or 4 eagle putts but not had one drop yet. First eagle putt i had was on a winter green and thought i did well to get it within 18 inches.

Most recent one i had was at Turnberry Kintyre on Monday, left a 20ft putt 4ft short but dropped that in for the birdie. Unfortunately i played like a donkey the rest of the round and that was about the only highlight, i was the only one of the 4 of us that had a birdie all day though!

Mine was when I was about 11 or 12 years old. I was at this sports summer camp type thing and was out playing golf one day in a team match against one of the instructors.

I can still picture the green it was on and where the putt was from but Im not sure how long it was, but it was VERY long, like 60+ feet or something.

It was on the 17th green and I needed to two putt to win the match. All day he had been trying to put me off using all of these stupid gamesmanship type things. I remember one of the stupid ones he did was he kept saying he had cake in his golf bag, as he was trying to make me hungry or something... I was (am!) a bit of chubby kid to be fair... but anyways they wernt working.

So I stand up to my putt about to hit it and he says to me "Hey Dan, do you breath in or out before you take a shot"

I remember being so angry that he was trying to put me off, especially considering I dont think we were even playing for anything!!

I tried to ignore what he'd said but it was all I could think about as I was setting up the putt. Even as I hit the putt I was still thinking about it!

Anyways I finally gave it a whack and the putt literally never left the hole. Straight in! I've never been happier after making a putt and went a bit overboard with my celebrations if I recall.

Anyways dont ever do that breathe trick thing on someone. That putt was pretty much the only one I made for the next year as it genuinely affected my golf really badly.. I just couldnt get it out of my head!!

my first ever eagle at minty's (remember him?) course, par 5
or the par 4 eagle at Ascot, no, it has to be last year's
birdie on the 18th at Goswick (sorry Stu')

Fading it left around the trees would be interesting, it would put him deep in the rough amongst trees, or in the stream, as the green is straight down from the tee, in line with the highest tree on the horizon in the middle. :D

I hope you would wait until he has played to tell him that. ;) ;) ;)

Not fading it around the trees, fading it across the front of them. Pin position looks perfect for his drive.

20 foot slightly down hill but fairly straight putt for a rare birdie on our 439 yard 5th about 15 years ago. Set me up for my lowest sctatch score and an honours board comp win. Course was very dry and greens were very quick. Hit the back of the cup and would have been a few feet past if it had missed. When it dropped I did think maybe today is the day. And it was.

Hmmm, that's a tough one. I love putting and can honestly say I make rewarding putts every time I play. It's the one's people don't expect you to make that give me most pleasure, the ones from outside 10ft that when they hit the bottom of the cup you know you playing partner's\opponent is thinking "he's bloody done it again". It doesn't even matter what it's for, birdie or double bogey it doesn't matter.

The one that stands out was for birdie on our 18th to break 80 round Royal Ascot for the 1st time a few weeks ago. It was about 14 feet with a bit of left to right break, I've made loads of that type of putt in the last few months but despite playing well I'd not managed to break 80 so it was a bit of a milestone for the season.

The other week i drove a par 4 at our place. Tricky green and hammered my first putt 10 feet past up the hill, leaving the downhill left to right one for birdie. Was happy when that went in!

I think the long one for par at hanbury manor, good drive, second in a green side bunker, splashed out to the far side of the green, 20feet plus. Snaked it up round, high and watched it die on two or three feet of break right into the hole!

Philly will know the one I mean :D

My most rewarding putt was probably only around 3' for a par 4 on our 18th green during our Summer Meeting way back in 1995.
My father has passed away earlier that week and since my name was down to play on the Saturday, I went out, just to fill in the time really. I had no real desire to be there nor any real confidence in the way I was playing. I played steady golf and sank a few birdie putts along the way. I knew I had a reasonable score going and on 18, I holed my final 3' putt to avoid a four man play off and to win the Summer Meeting by one shot. I'm biased, but, I still think that the trophy for the Summer Meeting is the best trophy in our trophy cabinet. It's certainly special to me :D
