More rules?

So, by that logic, if Im playing a hole in a strokeplay event, and a fellow competitor hits his ball and its heading towards my trolly. If I move my trolly i suffer a 2 shot penalty for moving an obstruction.
seems a tad unfair.

If you were attending your trolley, maybe not?! :cool:

Other than in a grudge/matchplay situation, I'd always take care not to leave anything even vaguely close to a shot/putt.

So in the examples on the previous page (difference being when the flagstick was placed on the ground) what would the penalties be in both cases if nobody picked the flagstick up and player B's ball hit it?

There are many such instances where the rules are questionable as to their sense or fairness.

eg. Tee shot and hit someones bag.....isnt it bad enough your ball has only gone 10 feet or maybe even bounced back behind you without the need for penalty strokes?

Why is there a need for 2 stroke penalty when 1 is more than enough damage for error or infringement?

I could ask WHY? on numerous issues regarding golf rules but my asking isnt going to change anything.

Still got book open.....loss of hole in matchplay and two stroke penalty in strokeplay.

For the player that hit the putt presumably.

Is there any penalty if the player realises he hit it too hard and runs to pick the flagstick up himself before the ball gets there?
Does it matter who placed the flagstick there in the first place?

Yes - the player who hits the putt. I imagine so - as you can't alter things like that during a stroke. It would end up like curling.

I haven't found the rule yet but I'm pretty sure that no-one (player, partner, caddie etc) is allowed to interfere in any way with the ball or the path of the ball whilst it is in motion. Thus, the flagstick is like an opponent's ball. You can move it before you make your stroke - but not during. The opponent's ball is a moveable obstruction when on the green....

Apparently, (I'm still reading)an ant hill is a loose impediment, so can be moved. Is this the same for a mole hill?

You're trying to make a mountain out of this now.

A snake is a loose impediment - but only when it's dead!
Enough for today - must sleep before the medal tomorrow. These decisions books make great reading. So far, trying to guess what the answers have been to the questions posed, I think I'm only getting about 30% right.

Herbie - you're only penalised if it's your bag, or the bag of someone on your side (see Rule 19). The bag or equipment of a fellow-competitor rather than a partner is regarded as an outside agency and striking it is just 'rub of the green' - which may be either good luck or bad luck depending on exactly where the collision has stopped the ball going!

One other thing - here is the clarification of the bunker situation outlined in the original post - the lie of the ball should be recreated as closely as possible under Rule 20-3b(iii) below:-

20-3b. Lie of Ball to be Placed or Replaced Altered

If the original lie of a ball to be placed or replaced has been altered:
(i) except in a hazard, the ball must be placed in the nearest lie most similar to the original lie that is not more than one club-length from the original lie, not nearer the hole and not in a hazard;
(ii) in a water hazard, the ball must be placed in accordance with Clause (i) above, except that the ball must be placed in the water hazard;
(iii) in a bunker, the original lie must be re-created as nearly as possible and the ball must be placed in that lie.

Justhitthething,

We're talking about the ball hitting the flagstick whilst putting on the green. Your trolley through the green isn't affected by the same rules. It would 'ub of the green' ;)

Oops should have read all other replies before posting, sorry.
