Well, you weren't far off! Signed up tonight, £63 which includes £10 extra for multi room for my daughter. Free install too, but I suppose that's usual these days for new customers.

Pretty good service - it's being installed on Saturday morning, which works out well as this weekends comp is on Sunday

I bought the TV last Saturday - Panasonic LCD 1080 - 37" from Comet at £449 included the Sky TV pack for an extra £30 and £50 cash back after installation, but strangely you get sent a £50 cheque :D

They tried to sell me what they call a power pack for £100 which acts as a filter against a power surge and can turn off unnecessary power. All this is supposed to save you more than £100 over the year. Decided against this as another £100 was just too much, and my daughter, who knows much more than me about these things, thought it a waste of money and just wasn't needed.

Really glad I went for the 37" screen as HID thought the 32" was plenty big enough  Keep trying to tell her how much better sport - especially golf - will be. :D

Timely warning matey.

You can get some cracking deals on the main items - whether TV, printer, or whatever. They are loss leaders.

They make their money on "recommended" extras. Surge protectors anywhere between £60/100, HDMI cables up to £60 when you can get them on t'internet (Fisual) for £5/6, extended warranty, printer cartridges £15/20/30 each, etc, etc

Caveat emptor

Yes indeed Roger!

Forgot to mention the "Extended Warranty". When I said no to the girl that served me, she said, "What will you do if it breaks"? Before I had a chance to reply, the wife stepped in and said, "It'll be on our household insurance". Nuff said!

Similar thing when I bought my LG tele a couple of Christmas' back. "Well Sir, what would you do if some of the LCD pixels (or whatever he was on about) fail? If you take out the extended warranty we will repair or replace the TV with the nearest available spec TV."

I was about to give my view when my son, who was with me, told the salesperson that he had been running a computer network at Southampton University for many years where he had 100+ LCD screens and, as far as he was aware, no-one had ever noticed or complained about dodgy pixels.

After that he tried the surge protector and HDMI lead. I did sort of admire him for sticking to the company sales pitch even though he knew he was fighting a losing battle.

When asked similar questions when buying, I always ask whether they dont back up their sale with a proper warranty. If they then go all coy and say that their warranty is second to none then my answer is "under the circumstances that you describe I would bring the item back for a full refund under the warranty" that usually does it.
