Afternoon all,

We have more new equipment video reviews for those of you who are interested.

The first is the new white TaylorMade Ghost Spider putter. It's a huge mallet, with lots going on visually all intended to help alignement. Here's my review: http://www.golf-monthly.co.uk/equipment/...deo-review.html

The second is the new Ping Anser wedge. It's forged and has a classic look that many of Ping's Tour players have bought into. Here's Mike's review: http://www.golf-monthly.co.uk/equipment/video/529113/ping-anser-wedge-video-review.html

We'd be interested to hear your thoughts on either or both!

Thanks,

Neil

That putter looks bit mad alright .. looks like it sits nice & square behind the ball tho, bit much for me i think .. the wedges look good , could i condone spending that on a wedge right now ?? no afraid not ,, would be interested to know what wedge Mike is using at the min & how it compared to that .. if thats an unfair question work wise ie it might upset one of the manufacturers that Mike has dealings with if he picks one club over the other then it is understandable to not answer that .. on wedges, take me for instance as a 9 h'capper does dearer mean better performance? if you get 2 wedges with same loft same bounce etc , what does the extra cash get you besides a brand name ??

I have the Taylormade Vicino (Below) It's a mid-size mallet with AWT in the rear (Which will be for sale soon, now I have my YES! Robin)

The Ghost looks more along the lines of the old Itsy Bitsy putter with a white paint job and a Pure Roll insert.

I have the original Spider somewhere, and thought it was a great putter but a little on the big side. Within months of me buying the original, Taylor Made true to form introduced the itsi bitsi spider which I imagine would be an improvement on the original, but after just forking out £140 I couldn't justify getting the smaller one.

What size is the head on this new one Neil, and which of the old spiders does it compare with?

I love the ball alignment feature on the putter, without trying i can see this being helpful.
The wedge Mike as you said "its a nieche market".People with more money than sense.
Is it really worth twice as much as a Vokey?

Don't like white on any golf club I've seen - just my opinion.

The wedges lok nice but at 150 quid!! YOu could get 2 Vokeys for that - or 2 MPT-11's.
No wedge is worth 150 beer vouchers.

I think Mike is still using Ping's Tour-S wedges... He'll correct me if I'm wrong.

I do indeed use the Tour-S wedges 50, 54 and 60. To look down on the Anser is v similar to them but feel from the forged face is undoubtedly more responsive than my cast wedges - then again I used cast irons (S56) so the consistency of feel right I get through from 4i to 60 deg is a good thing.

IMO the Anser wedge is better looking (both face and rear) that my Tour Ss

As I think (hope/should) I said these have been introduced to complement the Anser irons range which are also forged (and also premuim priced)

The Anser is a great wedge but there's no denying it's pricey. However there's certainly a small section of the market that will happily pay that sort of price.

It's obviously worth underlining that 150 figure for the Anser is an RRP and the figures folk were quoting here for Vokey and Mizuno seem to be best internet prices - the RRP on them is 100 and 105 respectively so cheaper, but not half price

one final thing... well done to Jim who edited the videos and kindly left out a couple of very random shots of mine and used the one where I hit it pretty close!

Until they appear on You Tube unless a certain amount of money changes hands via a brown envelope on Waterloo Station....... :D

Your right Mike,
I personally was quoting internet prices.
Also as you say there must be a market for the wedges,no company is going to produce a wedge that has no buyers.
However most players now have 3 or 4 wedges so it certainly can get very expensive.
Me personally,i do buy mine off the internet, only because its affordability that determines this.

If they see the Anser as up against Epon, Scratch, 14, Royal collection, Miura, Whitlam, etc, then the price is competitive.

Not many who are in the Vokey / Mizuno bracket will look at this price point though.
