Monty - too much pressure?

suggest that maybe he knew that it was better to be a well paid fish in a small pond rather than a minnow in the cut-throat ocean of US golf.

I think a lot of people respected that Monty didn't run off to the USA and stayed and supported the European Tour and I personally believe he has help make the European Tour a rival to the PGA Tour and if money was his only motivation then surely at the time he could've made a lot more by going to the States.

Well said. Monty was always forthright in his views from an early stage that the European Tour needed and warranted his support and that he owed it to them not to run off to the PGA at the first sniff of the green.

Plus, given the horrific abuse he gets when he's in America ('Into the Bearpit' for examples), why on Earth should he play there?
