Monty - Senior PGA

Still waiting for the breakfast story !!

Can't quite remember the precise details of it, but believe it went along the lines of....

At a Senior Tournament in Spain, he wandered into breakfast at the Hotel or Club and the group were 'moaning' about, or at least rating, the cost/value of the breakfast - which, like the quality of the 'posh course lunch' is how some of them rate places. He simply laughed and mentioned he'd had the most expensive he was ever likely to have - he'd signed the deeds to an apartment that was part of his divorce deal (£1.5M)! And he'd even paid for the Brekkie!

Great to see him have that win - and in such style! Tom Watson's final round score was pretty phenomenal too!

Fun to watch. Well done Monty.

Surprised to see Langer fat it into the water on the par 3. I thought only us h/cap golfers did that kind of thing!

Still utterly amazed and in awe of how well Tom Watson swings a golf club.

Brilliant!:D

I am absolutely delighted for the guy. He is one of the best pro golfers we have ever produced full stop. He has worked hard to get where he is and in my opinion deserves this "Major"
When you can no longer compete with the 20 year olds then you move on to the senior tour and compete for their majors. He has won one at last and it shouldn't be dismissed as a lesser event. He has still competed and beat the best golfers in his senior catagory.
Well done Monty.

he is a multi millionaire, hits a little ball in the fresh air for a living at least he could smile

There are many golfers who smile a lot less than Monty, but never attract the bile that he does. In the UK, we just love hitting out at our most successful golfers because they never deliver enough for us. Same happened to Faldo. 6 majors and that wasn't enough to stop him getting grief.

If amateur golf fans and journalists had the level of humility that (ironically) they complain that Monty and other targets of abuse allegedly don't, then they would be able to congratulate Monty unreservedly.

Well done Colin!

That is the most aggressive golf I think I have ever seen from Monty, if he could replicate that kind of golf more often, you could nearly see him back on the tour, wasnt exactly short neither off the tee.

Well said!!!!

Its not just the no smiling though LT, its the "do you know who I am and remember who I am" attitude.

I don't mind the guy and glad he won but he doesn't help himself on course,
I remember watching him at the welsh open and his gesturing for people to move so he could see the score board was pretty rude.Although the reply that don't worry your not on it was a classic.
Hopefully the monkey off his back and age will mellow that kind of thing, tbh I hear nothing but praise for him off course, and as has been said others act worse than him and get of scot free (tiger anyone?)

His remark to the Sky camera man did him no favours, especially as he started working for them shortly afterwards.

One thing I do like about him is he plays quickly. I can imagine he was on boiling point playing with Langer yesterday.

Met him at Silvermere and he was an absolute gent. Plenty of time with everyone. Lets not forget he may not have one a major (I'm still not convinced senior ones are THE majors) BUT he won numerous order of merit titles on the spin and was perhaps underrated as a player and everyone focussed on the down side of his persona. At the end of the day though he beat a quality field yesterday so well down Monty

What remark was that Rich ?

He did make a few sarcastic remarks about Langers slow play on Saturday. But he is refreshingly quick

After hitting a ball into water, he turned on the Sky cameraman/technician who was pointing a recorder at him, and said 'Do you have a problem ?' The cameraman said 'no', and Monty is classic condescending fashion said, 'you are only her because of me, remember that'. Monty did apologise later after Ewan Murray, one of his biggest fans, described his behaviour as 'unacceptable. Ironic that Monty should start working for Sky.;)

I am sure he is a different man off the course, just a shame that most of us only see his on course antics.

Ah yes I remember now - in fact Anthony mentioned a few incidents with him and how he is such a different character at times. Only time I met him was at a function and he was very pleasant and easy to talk to
