Monty - Senior PGA

At Walton Heath a couple of years ago in the US Open qualifier, the greens were not great to say the least, and Monty missed a three foot putt, but at least a foot wide. It was the final straw on about his 34th hole, and he came charging off the green towards me. I was sure he was going to have a go at me, but instead he started ranting at the bloke stood next to me. It was Ewan Murray.

To be fair, the greens were shocking, and had only just been tined.

One thing I didn't notice is he has gone back to Callaway from Yonex !

Was it just me, but did he seem more aggressive with his swing, and his putting. He seemed to be hitting his driver harder and further. I though he played more like he did at the Ryder Cup.

Watched the highlights this afternoon, delighted to see the big fella win.

Seemed that way - certainly going for shots you wouldnt normally have expected - even the commentators mentioned it

I'd heard they'd been tined 5 or 6 weeks before that (1st or 2nd week of April). But the amazing dry spell and the fact that WH is reliant on the weather, having no irrigation, completely screwed them. I gather they even suggested moving the comp, but it was too late to organise - allegedly! Even their fallback - tankers - was not enough!

Quite a few bitter comments on here about Monty. Great servant of the game, incredible ET career, great in Ryder Cup. Cannot understand all the negative comments - totally uncalled for in my opinion.

Agreed with you , how can others who dont know the guy comment on him , granted he gets upset on the golf course , does not make him a bad person..........................EYG

No....... But it does make him difficult to like

Well done and a great win but you cant compare this with a real 'Major'. How many of the world's top 50 were playing?

Not taking anything away from him and I hope he goes on to win more senior events (I will be watching at Royal Porthcawl for the Seniors open).

I don't think anyone has suggested it is as big as a major but it is a very very big tournament - prob just below the four majors.

And yes when Watson plays his Senior majors are mentioned.

Really? They may mention how he's performing currently. But I'm pretty sure more credence is given to his career before hand. I'm not saying it's no achievement to have won it. But IMO they're not comparable. Much like I was glad won a major in tennis as I think we would of constantly been hearing about e olymoic won if not.

Do you think minty would hand this senior major and any others he may win in exchange for a proper one? I do.

Yes they mention his senior major titles

No is comparing them and no one has suggested he wouldn't swap the senior for a main major

The PGA Senior has been going for 70 years I think - it is a very big exclusive tournament.

My original point was because someone said you can't compare it too a real major as none of the top 50 were in it. That was countered with the top 50 seniors were in it.

So a comparison was made.

Anyway, ill leave this thread now Phil. Not after wasting another afternoon.

Well the Top 50 seniors was a very valid point because it is a seniors tour event after all.
