To be honest though he did look pretty poor again and certainly lacking confidence. The goat herders nearly nicked it when they hit the bar. A real lack of pace and hunger and lacking a decent goalscorer

They didn't humble a football superpower. They humbled England.

Sorry, but that is the truth.

England needs to wise up and realise that they are not a serious contender for the European Championships or World Cup.

Why did they play Rooney ,is heads not with it just now, smacks of desperation me thinks.

and not a lot of alternatives :(

No Defoe, Bent or even Zamora (all of whom were scoring regularly for their clubs) and after that the cupboard is starting to look bare. Crouch was marked out of it and Rooney didn't look at the races at all and totally devoid of confidence. Davies did what he usually does and put himself about but unfortunately at this level you're get penalised (and booked) all the time. Who does that leave upfront?

You must have been watching a different game Homer! Ok it wasn't their best performance, but lacking pace and desire it wasn't. Any team will find it difficult and frustrating when the opposition just put 10 men behind the ball. What I think is a more justifiable criticism is that they still gave the ball away too much and until that part of their game improves drastically they won't be getting to any finals.

Let's face it, we should of had a penalty - blatant handball and how the linesman didn't see that is beyond me. Rooney was unlucky when put through by Gerrard - keeper made a great save and did well on the few chances we did have. And yes, they were unlucky too when they hit the bar.

That'll be Rooney then, to be fair he hasn't become a bad player, but he is seriously out of form and I think he tends to be brought back too quickly after injury, Had the others you quote have been available, he could (should?) have been left out.....not convinced that would have been the case though!

I'll be the first to admit that I have very little interest in football, particularly at the "higher" level. Mostly overpaid pansies trained at RADA imho (flak helmet firmly in place).

So, from a total outsider's perspective, how in the name all that's holy can we expect to perform on the world stage when any young talent that we may have stand absolutely no chance of making it to perform at world class level when they have no chance of getting into top flight football as it's full of foreigners (sorry, probably totally politically incorrect statement but what the heck...)

Unfortunately, it's all about money - surprise, surprise. International prestige takes second/third place.

If they restricted the number of non-English players in English clubs to (say) 2 per game then the new talent might come through. Bit of a pipe dream I'm afraid :( :( :(

At the end of the day Montenegro came to Wembley to get a point - pure and simple. I didn't watch it and only saw bits of SSNews with Paul Merson basically saying that we were all over them.
They put 10 men behind the ball to get a draw. In their shoes any of us would have done the same thing. England couldn't break it down so we're still 3 points behind them. No biggie. Monte won't win all their matches same as us but I bet we'll be on top at the end of qualifying.

Sorry but diasgree. There were patches of pass and move and good interchanges particularly in the first and last 15 minutes and the 10 minutes after half time. However, they did not create a clear chance from any dead ball situation, gave away possesion too cheaply and played too many square balls across the pitch. The way to play against any side set up to defend is to use width and movement in and around the box which we lacked.

I grant you it was a blatant penalty and the 12 year old linesman bottled it. Even the Rooney chance he chose to hit with the outside of the boot instead of putting the laces through it

As I said, they gave the ball away too much. I'd rather see square balls than just lumping it up the pitch.
Talking of width and getting the ball wide, A.Johnson and A.Young got wide and behind defenders a good few times and often get shoved off the ball and fouled.

As for Rooney, give the boy a chance, he's the most marked player in any game and can't do it all on his own. Still say any team is better with him in it.

I do agree though, the free kicks were often wasted and frustratingly over hit.

Sorry for my ignorance but where did they come from and how did they humble such a football super power?

I guess Rooney will get the blame again.

Do you see it is a bit dull and repetitive to want to come and post about England's poor performance instead of wanting to comment on your own team?? :D

I'm pretty sure that the aim is to qualify after all the group games have been played not after 3??

Oh here we go again, the defender of the crown jumps in hook, line and sinker .... Robo, we know were pish. Always have been and most likely always will be but we dont take ourselves too serious.

My post wasn't a rant about Engerlund, it was asking who the f*** Macedonia were and what mega stars played for them if they were good enough to contain The Queens Eleven? I now realise they are ranked 71 in the world and have a population of 2 million.

I am kinda glad you aint going to Goswick coz you aint got a sense of humour. You need to lighten up ma man.

Result !!!!

If you read it again, I'm just asking if you might think you are a bit dull and repetitive...........there is no defence of England, I'd have to have watched it to have any.

Yeah, I feel as though I am missing out on your witty banter by not going to Goswick....gutted.
