First up, my name is Mark and I am a Mizuno fan boy. Its been 3 weeks since my last purchase of a Mizuno branded product. Waits for applause.

I currently have Mizuno MP-57s in the bag, but realistically, from now on I know I will not be able to play or practice often enough to use them properly. The pitching wedge loft is 47 degrees. I have MPT-11 52/56/60 wedges (one of them bought from Smiffy!), which I like very much. So the PW - AW gap is 5 degrees.

I am looking to sell the MP-57s (3-PW with almost new yellow New Decade grips if anyone is interested) and get MX-300, which are more my level these days. Sacrificing workability is not an issue any more!

BUT, the PW loft in MX-300 is 45 degrees. Will I notice the increased gap between the PW and AW? Or should I maybe go PW (45) - 50 - 54 - 58?

I'm not too shabby with the 60, but again, a 58 instead of a 60 will give a little more ease of use. I'm sure Bobmac will approve.

I'm not too fussed about incurred cost here, this is golf we are talking about!!

Hmmm, I know the MX 300 are an MX club but it is my understanding that they were never particularly forgiving... Have you tried them yet?

I would stick with the MP-57s!!

Alex, I see you use the MP-57 3 iron. We are similar handicaps, how do you get on with that club? I have an almost identical bag to you.

I haven't tried the MX-300, but all the reviews and comments suggest to me that I want, I want, I want!

Nope I have MP-53, I think you mean Aztecs... he uses a 3 iron... well he carries a 3 iron!!

:ears: I'll have you know my 3 iron goes fine (occasionally :mmm:)

Ye I am thinking that 2 hybrid gets alot of use!!!:fore:

I am going to tap you up for a game soon as my sister in law(cow) is bugging us to come stay in Bristol...

LOL! Hope she doesn't read the forum. No worries mate! Whenever you want, sooner the better! (but not the next two weekends lol) I'm dying to get out for games at the mo. My current club is about 10 mins drive from Bristol (depending on whereabouts in Briz you'll be) and I'll be there til the end of March but if you come down after that, we can still go there or you can come up to Glos (30 mins) to my (potential) new course - whichever suits. I'm sure we can get a few others involved too!

And yes, my 2 hybird gets a lot of use. I even use it when I really shouldn't need to (just ask Swinger)!

U should be able to get your wedges bent a degree or 2 to fill in the gaps most pros will do it for a quid or 2. I went to get it done but when he checked the loft of my wedges the 52 was 49&1/2 the 56 was near 54 and the 60 was 59 hitting them off the mats in the range bends them a touch or so he said.

Hi Mark. I have two sets of Mizuno irons, my match set, i.e. the set I play a full round with in a Powakaddy bag/trolley, are MP-57's and my carry set MX-200's, the set I use for 3-9holes during the summer or when there is a trolley ban.

I find the MP-57's very easy to hit, however there is no doubt that the MX-200's are even easier to hit. I use 4-PW in both sets but do have a 3 iron in the MP-57 which I dont use as I prefer a hybrid.

In respect of the wedges, I prefer to have another club at the other end of the bag i.e. 3&5-wood so only have two wedges. However, when I was fitted by Mizuno I was told to keep a consistent gap, hence I play PW (46deg) and 52 & 58 deg wedges. I find the 58 deg wedge is plenty of loft for lob shots, getting out of bunkers etc.

Thanks for the interesting points chaps.
Aztec, when you helicopter your 3 iron, are you using the new, extra 20 yards or your money back move?

Bending the wedges is an option I suppose, I didn't realise that hitting off mats would affect the loft.

Interesting point PPE, after all I wont get much back for the MP-57s, so a mixed set of 4-6 of Mx-300 and 7-PW MP-57 or 4-7 MX-300 and 8-PW MP-57 could be rather sweet.

I've been using the mx300s for nearly a year now,and I just love em,nice ball flight and not much difference to the mp53s just bought the jpx hybrids a couple of weeks ago,so I'm really looking foreward to having a game.

Bending the wedges is an option I suppose, I didn't realise that hitting off mats would affect the loft.

Don't forget that altering the loft will alter the bounce by the same amount - so bending the 52 to 50 will lower the bounce by 2 degrees.
And any forged club's loft/lie, if it's used a lot on mats or on hard ground, will get changed over time.
I once heard that having them checked once a year was a good move.

In response to the OP, I had virtually the same setup as you have. I ditched the MP57s and got JPXPros instead. Certainly made a difference for me. MP57 were great when you were swinging it well, but, not forgiving enough when you were swinging like a donkey ;) It's the shots you waste on the long aproaches that cost you when you're swinging like a donkey :)

I've just gone through a 'wedge' evaluation as I found too big a gap between my PW and 52°MPR. Going to have one of the new JPX 50°/60° Wedges in the bag to fill the gap this year.

If I was going to throw a fly in the ointment why not look at the JPX800 pro which may give you a bit more of a compromise between what you have and what you are looking at. I've no idea if that helps with the wedge gap but I tried them last year and thought they were an excellent club

your not getting my mx300's love them, especially my 8I and PW. I appreciate all the guidance is to have a consistent gap with your wedges but I find the MX300 PW a very forgiving and versatile club.
The MX300s are a superb under rated iron, but as Homer says the JPX800 PRO are the new brother. You might still get a good deal for a set left unsold.
enjoy them if you get your hands on a set. Great club.
