Missing Golf?

Are you married Jacko? I suspect not, my wife would have found the time for those jobs on my behalf! :)

Sadly so!

My biggest problem so far has been getting the materials. Thankfully places are opening back up but I have a sneaky suspicion that the so and so's have increased their delivery charges as a consequence to gain more income. I had an argument with a local saw mill/timber place who wanted £30 delivery to drop of 3.5 metres of fencing 3 miles (maximum) down the road. They got that fed up with me they finally agreed to leave the timber in a corner of their yard for me to collect!!!

:p

Don't mind paying delivery for things I can't collect/get myself.

I've never been busier and found loads to do in my "spare time" which would normally have been wasted on the golf course hitting a wee white ball.

I've demolished my old shed and burned it. I have challenged myself and made a new fence which looks excellent. I've moved an electrical supply from one shed to another, something I had never done before and was always "scared" of electricity however after a good few Youtube videos and some reading it was a very straightforward process. Hardest part was digging a trench. I've redone all my flowerbeds and my back grass is now getting attacked with seed and feed, watered etc.

I've just ordered two tonne of type 1 gravel to make the sub base of a path I have decided to put in at the back of my garden, and will now start that once it arrives.
I'm glad you've found something fulfilling, but that sort of stuff really isn't for me. Have no interest in gardening/DIY at all. My weekends were all about golf and football, now they're all about sleeping in until 2pm because it feels pointless getting up, and getting moaned at and nagged by the wife.

You'll be surprised at what you can do and achieve when you start.

The weakest part of my game has always been my irons so decided to try to do something about it during this lockdown. Looked at youtube videos, read some online articles and made some adjustments and now feel as though I'm hitting my we sponge balls off the back of the house with my 6 iron great :D. Now need to get on the course to test it out with real balls before I lose it again. No doubt I'll still duff the first one I have to hit for real.

Short game is my weakest link especially those short shots where you only need to pitch it over a mound or something and carry it about 5-6 yards and I'm particularly poor if the lie is bare. I've been really working hard in the garden on those and making baby steps. Much better when I can make a longer swing and more speed so if I can nail the baby ones I'm going to have more confidence on the course (in theory). Been working on the putting with my Visio mat and gates and progressed to the smallest size (50mm) which only gives 0.5 degrees of error and starting to get the ball through regularly so the ball is at least starting on the intended line

Hopefully this lockdown might have given us a chance to think about our game a bit more and practice a bit rather than just play all the time (which I'm guilty of). My putting deserted me from about July last year having previously been not bad. Got to the point I could miss 2 or 3 two footers in a round and resulted in my handicap going up on the last day of the season. Been working on that too - hopefully I've forgotten whatever it was I was doing wrong.

Practice, if only that was allowed...

Only in the garden, honest. Was walking on the course today and there was a guy hitting balls onto the 1st green - not a member I'm pretty sure. Very annoying. Got an email from the club saying no golf for at least 3 wks - bloody Sturgeon.

I started a thread in a Welsh Golf FB page asking everyone to bombard the office of the loopy First Minister asking why he thinks shopping for flower pots is ok but golf isnt. Email below

Mark.Drakeford@senedd.wales.
There's a page on the Scottish govt website that you can send them your ideas/thoughts. There were more comments (with lots of likes) saying golf should be allowed than any other single topic - unfortunately it hasn't made any difference.

Did you not tell that person to GTF? I would have, maybe not since they had a golf club in hand!

He had his wife and young son with him. I couldn't be bothered causing a scene. I pulled up a couple of guys last week - had my 20 year old son with me who's into boxing so felt I had enough back up if it turned ugly.
