Minimum Alcohol Pricing

Right this one is simple. You live at home with ma 'n' pa or you are at Uni with a massive student loan. Either way that leaves you in the position of being able to go out on the lash whenever you want, but before you go out you have half a bottle of Sambucca or 12 cans of Stella or a couple of bottles of wine then out on the town, a couple more then I'll either fight anyone I can or get so comatose that I end up in casualty and let the NHS look after me all night. When you pay £20.00 a week to your parents when you earn £200 per week what is 20p a pint going to do to stop me drinking. Why the *uck should I who has 3 pints on a Sunday afternoon before going home for a roast and not saying boo to a Goose pay a minimum price for my alcohol?
I'll tell you why...so David Cameron can send the extra revenue generated to effing Africa or give it to Greece.
I am sooooooooo angry about this. Tackle binge drinking my backside it is a stealth tax pure and simple.

Health issues may not be the case in Leeds but it is definately the case in Scotland.
There is a hard core of our young people, roughly about 10% of the population who are in serious need of help.
They are out of control alcohol addicts, most will be dead or seriously disabled before they are 60 years old.

And making everyone pay more for their occasional tipple will cure this problem?

Why is that my problem? Or indeed anyone else who CAN control the need to get blathered and just enjoy a quiet drink in a local pub or their back garden. Why should I pay more for a pint than some waste of space who cannot control themselves and costs the nhs and the rest of the country thousands of pounds? Let me suggest a better course of action if I may? How about making binge drinkers pay for their hospital treatment or be fined for their anti social behaviour.

It is only low priced alcohol units that is increased in price.
I don't think 'everybody' drinks white cider and 3 for £10 wine.
Excuse me, my wife buys 3 for £10 wine, the difference is she doesn't drink them all in one night then go out and do something stupid because of it. All of society shouldn't pay for the tiny minority, lets put 10% on stanley knife blades or glue because of the tiny proportion of idiots that abuse these items. C'mon let's get real here.

Scottish Government has just voted to bring this in.
Vote was 86-1 with the one saying that she voted the wrong way by mistake.
[Was that a half bottle of Buckie I saw in her handbag?]

Good move and well done. Once again we lead the civilised world in social isues.

Eh, not quite Doon. The Scotsman (theee Edinburgh newspaper) is currently running a poll on this and I have to inform you, dem Morningsiders ar dead against it!

....and know for viewers in England.

Morningsiders = Disgusted Tumbridge Wells

Thanks for the clarification... I did wonder what was meant....

Whilst I don't agree with minimum pricing I doff my cap to anyone who has enough of a social consience to care that there is an issue and it needs resolving....

Despite the 'official line' that this policy won't affect 'sensible' drinkers I believe it will... Raise the price of 'supermarket' brands which is basically whats being said and the 'premium' brands WILL go up pro rata...
