We‘ve had a Tempur mattress for a good 10 yrs now. I wouldn’t ever return to a normal one, the Tempur is so much better for my back. I find when I’m away now I have to keep turning at night to reduce body pains. Some say memory foam mattresses are hotter, but I wouldn’t say there’s much difference, it’s just a different feel.
The only downside is that anything done on your knees is a little harder ;)

I’ve had one for about a year, I was struggling with lower back pain, always ached in the morning, now nothing, sleep better, although still not long, but that’s nothing to do with the mattress.

Best thing I purchased for a long time.

Our head of domestic operations recently bought 2 new mattresses. Both are very good.

A Simba hybrid.... memory foam pocket sprung in our room. Very good indeed.
If you mention our recommendation, you get two free memory foam pillows.. buy online but it is effectively a free trial and it us returnable. (You have to mention "Donna Miller, Chepstow!!")

The guest room has an Emma Memory Foam...very good too! Similarly you buy online and it's returnable.

I also have a Simba. It is not a 100% memory foam, it is a hybrid with memory foam and springs. It comes shrink wrapped and you put it on the bed and watch it slowly expand. I find it very comfortable. I hear the Emma mattress is also excellent.

Jumping on, Cheers BiM,
How do the mattress’s rate for firmness and for those with a bad back, did you change the pillows at the same time?

Sort of bucking the trend... we got an Emma last year and at first I thought it was the greatest thing ever, but now I’m not so sure, it almost seems too soft, it’s a bit of a pudding to get out of and rolling over from one side to another is an effort. I wouldn’t get another.
I posted something similar to the above on Trust pilot (or revoo?) and the people at Emma contacted me to say someone would call me to discuss my comments but they never did!

We've gone down the memory foam route - foam on a springs. My (glass) back put an end to my golf, and we've swapped and chased mattresses for years. Don't fall for the old "it must be a firm mattress for a bad back." Too firm means not enough support and extra strain on the spine.

Both our doubles are the same, which is good for when I'm banished for sounding like a water buffalo.

Used to have a "very firm" sprung mattress. It was getting old so bought a new mattress - an Emma. Have never slept better since we did.
And still cant believe how small was the box it came in. Just dont unwrap it till you actually need it.

We bought an Emma having previously had a memory foam mattress. The previous memory foam was fantastic. The Emma was a nightmare for delivery, you can return it within 100 days. We did, we just could not get on with it. It was an even bigger nightmare to return. When we bought the mattress we were encouraged to buy the Emma mattress protector, which is fine but not cheap. You cannot return the protector so your stuck with it, Secondly, when you are sprawled all over an Emma mattress, it feels totally different once the protector is on.
Same with the pillows. Although I actually love the memory foam pillow. They are totally differant to a normal fibre or down pillow. One-side is foam, the other is memory foam. They keep my head nice and cool.
we did eventually buy another memory foam mattress, a thermaphase from downtown/ Oldrids on the A1. It is a thing of beauty.
Ps, a year or so later we were shopping in Cambridge and went into the British heart foundation furniture shop. They had a couple of Emma mattresses in there. It transpires that BHF sell all the returned mattresses at a massively reduced price. ?

Did you get the mattress protector with it. ? Its just that when we put ours on it felt the bed was totally different to the one in the shop.

We had a memory foam mattress before, our current one is a hybrid one which is half springs and half memory foam I guess - the missus doesn't really like it and says she prefers the older one that was 100% memory foam. To me they're about the same. But I certainly wouldn't buy a full spring type one. I kind of see them as a bit old hat and memory foam is the future I think. Don't get one that's too soft though or you'll just roll into the middle, ha. I think even the firmer ones still feel pretty soft, since they're foam after all. I would love to try one of the really expensive Tempur ones.

Used to be very firm, now a lot softer? It happens, I hear, although I wouldn't know.

One thing to remember if out trying memory foam mattresses, you do need to lay on it for about 15-20 mins to allow your body heat to be absorbed into the memory foam which allows it to shape to your body.It may feel odd laying there in a shop, but it’s worth it.

Get fit for your mattress.
Dreams have a bed that maps your body and the way you and your partner lie and it gives you mattress recommendations.
I ended up with a spring, memory, gel hybrid from Therapur.
