Wooo hoo!!!!! Had asked the club I'm joining if I could get a free round this month before my membership starts in April. They said no....your membership can start now for no extra fee. I'm made up. Can't get out this weekend because of Mothers Day plans but will be out next for sure. So happy and excited!!!!!! There'll be a detailed overview of the course appearing on the blog soon.

Which club have you joined?

Looking at your sig are you still not playing any woods? You're going to need something to get some distance.

Driver is not hard to hit these days, with 460cc's you can't miss!

Congrats on your membership Tiger, and your new club sound forward thinking.

On the subject of woods, I find a driver easier to hit than a 3 wood. You may prove me wrong of course, but I think a few on here have said the same.

Good luck :D

Golfmmad.

Congrats on joining a golf club. I joined my club at the start of Feb on a 14 month for the price of 12 deal and there is no better feeling than joining your first club.

Maybe it would be worth looking at a hybrid to give you a bit of distance. I got 2 dunlops at £12 each as kind of a stop gap to see if i wanted to go the hybrid route or stuggle to hit a 3/4 iron. I find they are as easy as a iron to hit off the tee and the deck and will increase your distance and will be getting better ones in the next few months now i know i want to stick with them.

hey Golfmmad and Birdieman. If I do go for a 3 wood it would mainly be because I could play it off the deck. I'm also a little wary of side spin on off centre drives and my new track has some hungry gorse wayward tee shots.

Good news Tiger. We expect great things from you this year ;)

No pressure then :o :D

Good work tiger. Get yourself a 3 wood and lots of practice between now and the first comp. Get your cards in asap and start working on your handicap from there.

once they are in you will always have a target to focus on when you play the comps.

The club I'm about to join - Hinksey Heights in Oxford - has a points system for membership, bit like pay-as-you go credit on a mob phone... prices start from £145.

Like Tiger, I am new to the game, just starting out and hoping to get a handicap and see it go down.

Cheers
Simon

Excellent news; mine is due to start in April as a new member so was thinking along the same lines of a free round later this month!!

Looking forward to the reports on the course and project.

Not being cheeky but if your still getting your swing together, so you can hit a driver or 3 wood why are you hitting Pro V's and Z Star balls?

Doesn't make sense to me.

I got some free ProV1s and Z-Stars with clubs and magazine subs. However, I'm playing rounds with ProV1 lake balls at the moment. Hope this makes sense. Toying with the idea of buying some AD333s now.

Tiger, there's a thread on here i started about balls (which ball and why), there's loads of posts regarding choice. I'm sure you've read it though, but its interesting.

I'd try the NXT tour mate - its a mid ball but your putting a lot of work into your game and you seem to be committed to it long term, this ball will see you through a couple of years im sure. Then move onto the pro V1 (or the x version). you want to lose any side spin before using premium balls, keep your ball in play (not OOB or lost in rough) as its a fast track to better scoring.

Couldn't agree more. I've been mainly playing on the par 3 so have been getting away with the lake balls but want more control on the main course. I'll re read the ball thread. Thanks for reminding me. T

That looks a nice club Tiger , i stay at the Moon and Sixpence over the road, quite often during the summer months ,I've often thought about going there, but they have a good little 9 hole course on the site that i get some great practice on. Maybe get a game in when i'm up there . Good luck ;)
