What's a tee time ?
At my own club, other than Comps which always have a start sheet, we just pitch up and set off. Worst case you might have to put the ball in the chute and wait a short while, but these are rare occurrences. I kid you not

I think we all are here. I could get to Dunbar down the A1 in 30mins from my house. North Berwick takes 30 mins, Gullane takes 25 Mins and Longniddry is only 20 mins away. Great thing the Bypass & the new A1
Even Goswick is only an hour away
If only I had the time to play at two clubs

All of the courses near me charge £550 to £600 a year plus joining fee (nobody has dropped that despite all of them looking for members and offering various deals to new members). Stapleford Park is nearer the £900 mark.

I dont know how this measures with you guy's across the pond but i got this seasons in the door yesterday.....No change from last year.....650 euro membership plus 19 euro for my G.U.I Levy.....669 altogether.... plus i get 3 full green fee vouchers for visitors and im included in a draw if i pay on time which has a prize of 50% off the cost of next years green fee's....
Im happy out at that....
Just got notice through tonight they are putting our membership up this year by €10 to €480

I thought is was because most Scottish courses are council owned or at least the land is on cheap rent? I might be wrong.

Played Goring and Streatley many times, and had lessons there as a kid from Roy Mason, Carl's dad. Don't think i could ever have been a member though, as there are some very steep hills. It is on one of the par three's there, that i putted off the front of the green nearly back to the tee. 
Our fees are just under £1200, which is similar to neighbouring courses Hankley Common, Hindhead, and Liphook. They all do have much larger joining fees though.

There are a few of the larger councils that still have courses, but that's usually in the larger cities. Most courses are private members clubs with only a few 'commercial' courses on the go, mostly built in the last 20 years or so. many smaller towns have a course that is on land that has been gifted or bequeathed by a generous landowner at some stage.

Most courses in Scotland are old private courses which have been in existance for generations and therefore have little or no overheads as far as the land and buildings are concerned.

A certain well established Edinburgh Golf Club does not have annual fees. What they do is divide the annual running costs between the number of members and that's what they pay.

That course and clubhouse is beautiful, for £600 a year I would be biting their hand off.

Same as Moor Allerton or Moortown in Leeds, one year it was £240, the next after a new clubhouse it was £3000 and you cannot question it as you are expected just to pay it.

My club is £590 per year, but they are doing an offer at the moment of 15 months membership for the price of 12. Not too bad I think.

We were £650 + £50 levy for the clubhouse. Can't really complain about that considering it's basically in the centre of Edinburgh

and what do we take this this thread, you scotts might lose 3 months a year from your membership due to poor weather, but your courses are on average 35% of the price of our membership, so your still quids in!

The Jocks average wage is proably only half of that you Southeners get for the same job so therefore you should be paying double for your membership

The only thing i can think of is taxation and business rates for south east england being different and no comparable. It seems common around here that although the club house and maybe 2/3 holes are owned by the course alot of the land clubs use is still council owned. Shirley park would be a prime example. a members only course just outside croydon central. subs are around the £1400 mark per year, joining fee, no green fee's at weekends, and as far as im aware still no need to book tee times. Yet it turned out the clubhouse and car park aswell as the 1st and 18th are club owned, the rest of the course is leased from croydon council. they club were forced to raise teh new lease fund for 99 years which has been raised by the members. but i think in the south of england it would be suprising at to how many clubs still lease a percentage of their land
