A few of us turned up at GM - Ping, Play Your Best 2012 day. Met up with Lee Westwood. Amazing guy, great sense of humor. Got some tips re the game.

We went out on the Karsten Lake Course in the afternoon. I visited every long grass, casual water, bunker, tractor mark etc on the course. The only bits I missed was the fairway, green and the hole. 20 Points to end the day. The winner was a forum member with 39 points (i will not steal his thunder).

Awesome day and now back to day job. :(

being one of the extremely lucky few to be invited it was a truly awesome day, albeit a long one, got home about 12:30 ish

39 points on the lakes course with the rough up as high as it was was a cracking score.

I manged third place but i think that was due to my eagle eyed spotter wabinez and the other guys in my group, rather than being a straight shooter.

Just a note on Lee Westwood, what an absolute gent, took time to answer all our question and at the group clinic showed his funny side and humility.

i truly hope he gets the Open or the PGA this year (or both)

Awesome day thanks again GM

Did he give you some putting tips?

Not tips, but 2 insights...
1) He uses a tent pegs and a piece of string to practice his putting. keeping the putter head line under the string ensure that he is always putting in a straight line

2) For his putting, he does not use a line marker on the ball to align the ball before putting!!!. He only has a single dot on his ball. He puts the dot on the side with no logos on. That way, when he is looking down on the ball, he can only see the dot and nothing else. His alignment is done by the line on the putter rather than the ball.

33 was a good score on the day.. Scott (HC6) from my group shot a 32, so you can be doubly pleased.

Agree, Westie was awesome.

Haven't met the guy but he's supported two charity auctions I've run so in my eyes he's a top guy. He is my favourite golfer and I dearly hope he gets the major I believe he deserves. Glad everyone had a great day

It was a great day with Westy, as has been said before he is good fun and quite open with his answers to our questions
He passed on a few tips during the 1-2-1 session we had, I was a bit nervous hitting balls with him judging my swing but managed to hit a few good ones.
He even praised my swing and only advised a couple of little changes that would help my ball striking improve.

Was also good to meet the other guys from the forum they are all a good bunch and despite the poor weather everyone had a great day.

As said before the course should have been closed with all the standing water around, caused a few slapped shots in our group and a few lost balls due to balls disapearing under water.

Overall I was reasonably happy with my 32 points,I did not play that well due to a late night with the GM lads on the beer and an early wake up call from the rain battering against my windows, like any good golfer I have plenty more excuses if required lol.

It's true, our group had a long and well rehearsed list of excuses by the 18th!

you got some putting tips off me too :-)

Hey Scott.. yes indeed.. tnx for the tip. It is quiet unusual for all parts of my game to fall apart on the same day. So the putting tip was useful. But why did u wait for the 15th hole for that - else I could have easily beaten you :)

Didnt want you running away with it. Seriously tho, keep the face square at impact and you will hole all of those 3/4 footers that you were missing on monday. practice with the tees or the string as Westy had and it will become natural for you.

Hope it helps.

Tnx 4 that Scott... (excuse alert).. I play with a TM Ghost Spider which is face balanced - this is the putter I was using on Monday. A few weeks ago, I got a Odessey Ice off fleabay as an indoor practice putter. it is slightly toe balanced. Looks like all the practice I am doing is starting to harm!!. The Ice may go back on fleabay sooner rather than later.

But like the idea of the gate... will practice.
