Max Handicaps Changing

Not heard anything about that. In america its the oposite where men seem to have joined the female of the species & playing off a max of 36, which tbh I would not like to see.

For competition purposes already in the UK if anyone enters a pro-am etc or open the maximum handicap will be 24 for anyone of 24 or above & quite frankly I can understand the reasons as having an official 28 handicap I know full well I'm capable of better (well, a lot better) than that any (most) day(s) of the week.

In Yerp, the handicaps for both sexes go up to 42.

I have been stuck behind a 4 ball of very large Germans, the best of whom had a h/cap of 40. Unbelievable. Puts me off playing abroad.

No grown man should have more than a shot a hole IMO!

Thats like saying no grown horse should carry more than a lb in weight for each race, one of the great things about the handicap system in any sport where it's applied is that two people at each end of the scale can play each other.

Ie. I play my pro quite often, him off scratch and me off 26, more often than not it goes down to the last few holes, with me off 18 i'd have no chance and they'd be no point in playing!

very short sighted comment IMO

I tend to almost agree with dodger..lol.

I have taken people out with me with high h/c and helped them shoot 90 or less just by limiting their swing and giving them options they wouldnt normally take or think about.

I took one 24 h/c player for a practice followed by a round (he had had 7 lessons with a pro and never improved)and showed him a different way to aproach the game without changing the basics the pro had gone through(thoughts and attitude), his set up(time and method),his swing (shorten and smooth, eliminated his long winded set up practice swing and replaced it with a loosen up practice swing followed by shorter set up time before his stroke)and his putting(line up and play without ever going through the long winded pro style of look at every blade of grass from every angle along with holding up the putter squatting etc etc, no , almost every putt this guy took he remained standing throughout the whole process, often looking at the line only then taking the putt relatively quickly compared to his usual routine.)

Not wishing to brag but this chap shot 89 for the first time ever, played his quickest round ever did his best putting ever and a few weeks later lost 2 strokes from his h/c, not sure how hes doing now as I havent seen him for a while.

I believe with a little effort anyone can shoot 90 or less,Ive done it with a 9 iron and putter to prove a point in the past, I actually shot 88, one day Im just gonna do it with a putter and I recon I could do it under 95 so long as course has no hazards like water across fairways or hvy rough for the 1st 200 yds lol.

I taught my nephew to play when he was 10 and helped him over the yrs,at 14 he had 16h/c hes a very very competent 8 h/c today aged 24 and if he had time and commitment I believe he could be better than my best was by far. I did very little other than enhance what he naturally had and show him many different ways to get a job done with little risk now he shows me lol..
