I have a feeling I know the answer to this already but I have to play a match against one of the ladies at our club. Is it still full h'cap difference? So if I'm off 12 and my oppo is of 31, would I give up 19 shots?

This is a funny one cos her stroke indexes will be different from yours ie reds to white tees. I really cant see where you can play a matchplay playing from different tees. Someone enlighten me

Have only played against a lady in society matchplay , you go to scratch & she goes to 19 (using her indexes) giving her two shots on her index one . in some clubs it gets aquward coz what could be a par 4 for men is a par 5 for women , hence another shot , wana check with your comp secratery before you play tho to save aloada grief

Seems you would apply the following
Ladies' Competition H/cap = Ladies' CONGU H/cap + (SSSladies – SSSmen)
before calculating the strokes recieved.

She would play off the ladies tee but against the gents stroke index.

Complicated isn't it ;)

Might as well just give her the match now and have done with it.

This would seem like the way to go or just dont enter these mickey mouse comps in the first place.

That would have been the best approach. I qualified for it by finishing in the top 8 in our March medal(the comp is 8 men and 8 ladies). I said I'd play as I'm new to the club and thought it would be good to get involved. I hadn't given it another thought until I found out my oppo played off 31. I don't know what tees she plays off, or what I do for that matter and hadn't even thought about the different SIs or Pars etc.

I'll send a mail to the sectetary and find out but whatever happens, I think I'm up against it.

If we put figures to the above formula

31=31 +(say) 4 = 35 - 12 = 23

I would have thought that HER CONGU handicap was related to playing off the ladies tees and why she receives an extra 4 shots without playing off the gents tees is surprising.

No doubt I am missing something but I feel he is offering too many shots. I also feel if she is entitled to 23 shots and she is a lady - it should be off the ladies card and if he was getting the shots it should be off the gents card.

Just looked and the SI and Pars are the same on all holes, SSS is 69 for ladies and 70 for men so using the above calculation it's just the 18 shots :D

I didn't think this warranted a new post so I thought I'd revive this old one.

I've just completed my match against my lady opponent and it turns out all the calculations were in vain as there is a maximum 18 shot difference enforced by the club.

Anyhow, in a thoroughly enjoyable but tough match I managed to turn a 1 hole deficit at the turn into a 2 up victory. I won't bore you with the details.
