I was cleaning my clubs yesterday and lined them up on the patio. To my surprise, I discovered that my short clubs (9 and various wedges) are all totally unmatching in length.
This isn't such a surprise, as my Mizuno's were +1/2" and the Callaways standard, which means my 9 iron (Callaway) is shorter than my PW and GW (Mizuno). Also, my collection of wedges are different makes/models.
I wondered if there was any use in matching up my wedges, maybe buying a couple more and playing with identical GW/SW/LW even if I don't take 4 out onto the course?

My favourite has got to be my seve icon md LW, but it seems a bit mad to "bin" a vokey SW to match it with another MD. Also, the LW is just a sometimes club for me.

Has anyone gone out their way to get a matching set?

Does it really matter if all the lengths are messed up, as long as I don't feel uncomfortable?

9i shorter than a GW seems a bit extreme, surely my yardages are a bit dodgy playing with any old set in the short clubs?

Any thoughts? :) :D

PS, before taking the proverbial too much, I am actually half decent 70-110, it's probably the best part of my game t.b.h. last game out, my partner called the shots depending on wind and elevation and pin, I got down in two 5 times... :)

Doesn't mater as long as they work.
I have a vokey 52, a cg14 56, and a mizuno mpt 10 60.
Sometimes drop the 60.
I have no problem with them being different as they are used for different things.

I would say it's all down to feel.
If you like your wedges and are confient with them, dont mess with them.
They are your friends and they will know :D ;)

one problem you may find is that with shafts the wrong length you are having to make a lot of compensations with your hands and legs during the swing to make correct contact with the ball. Shaft length does decrease with loft for a reason and you need to adjust the ball position accordingly.

2 questions.

1. Do you ever have a shot inside 100yds when you think you haven't got the right club for the job?

2. How much would you miss each of your wedges if you had to play without it?

It is nice to have matching because you can become confident in knowing, or they should do, perform in the same way!

Dave, like Bob I think it's down to feel.

I'm a big 'feel' player for my short game so if something works don't fix it.

Your short game was strong when you played at my place the other month too! :)

1. No....not that I remember
2. I think I'd miss the 52 and 56 if I had to leave one out. Mostly I use 3 and t.b.h I don't even count the PW as a wedge. :o

I don't think I need to fix that much, but it really worries me seeing all these different length shafts, even if I often mess around with the "choke" anyway.

t.b.h. I find it amazing I can even hit the ball when I'm never stood the same distance from it. That's golf I guess, it's a miracle any of us can get it round at all. :D
