Masters , tricked up and unfair ?

oh dear!

it's not us that's playing it, it's multi millionaire worlds elite professionals with the best equipment, support and facilities......not to mention perfect weather....

it's not tricked up, silly, boring or whatever other negative adjective people want to throw at it.

The players on form are getting birdies and plenty of them, the ones moaning are.....let me see.......yup, not doing so well, there's a surprise.

I'm firmly in the camp of making all Majors uber difficult and a 'proper' challenge, it's not a club trophy and the 2's money they're playing for

They nearly always do but occasionally the make mistakes.
In fairness they usually react to criticism.

Jiminez just said on Masters Breakfast that is was tough but fair and you just needed to put the ball in the right place

Phil you are quoting the guy in 3rd place!!!

Perhaps some of the classy players who missed the cut might have a different view.

And why do you think that - let me guess - because they didnt play so well perhaps ?

Tricked up; not unfair!

They are going to have to make a decision about whether to extend/Bubba-Proof' a couple of holes though!

why? Tiger was longer years ago at the Masters, in fact his average, yes average drive when he won all those years ago was 325 yards with the driver, pitching wedges into a couple of the par 5's

Pretty enjoyable viewing for me.

I confess I'd prefer more predicable greens but harder, tighter fairways to test driving and approach shot accuracy to avoid another 'bombers' paradise which seems so common on the PGA tour.

Young Speith seems to understand course management and he's a rookie.

Nowt wrong with big Mig...Who are these 'classy' players who missed the cut?..Phil Mick, one of em i guess?..great player, and great guy, but wasn't his time this year...Cabrera( not so classy)...saw his class at Valderamma, when a few kids wanted his autograph...

The only thing that annoys me about the masters is that two thirds of the camera shots are all on the putting green , you would have thought that it would be better to see more of a players performance from tee to green .

The pin positions are about right for professionals but would rightly so be a nightmare for us amateurs.

And I know this is a purely personal opinion but I think Peter Alliss should be retired because I find his commentary boring and often irrelevant . I know the guy has achieved much in his career and he is to be respected for that but as for commentating , he should leave on a high and be remembered for his contribution to golf.

My thoughts are twofold:

1. It's the same for everyone making difficulty a non-factor when considering anything other than what score you might post at the end; and
2. They're professionals and most of them post scores well under par over the course of any given competition; the difficult pin positions separate the field.

On the way to our course this mornin my dad was telling me that Jack Nicklaus was asked in the studio yesterday was there a certain way to play Augusta.....
He said that the way he always found it was that he hit ( And not sure what holes are where ) but he hit 3W,3W,3W,3W,3W,Driver, 3W,3W,3W,3W,Driver..... And aim at the middle of every green.... You dont go after the pins unless your trying to make up ground or your very confident that you can control your ball....

Now i know that the course is probably longer and a little tougher but i dont think the greens may have changed so much.....

Does he know something that todays Pro's dont..

I like it. Its about putting the ball in the right place and that doesn't have to be right at the flag. The good players will always get it into play off the tee and be able to control their flight and put it in the best position to score.

Love it, watched all the live coverage. You know what you're going to get every year at Augusta re pin placements etc. It's tough but the fact it was won with 8 under proves it was fair and playable. Best week of golf of the year on tv unless it's a Ryder Cup year.

Worst Major by a mile Bill.

Horses for courses and the same track every year makes this invitational the weakest of the 4.
I agree. Not fashionable to say it of course, but smallest field, crazy golf style putting on some holes and sets up for some players better than others. Whilst that can happen at any major, because this is played on the same course, they have a much bigger advantage than at other majors where any set-up advantage will change from year to year.
