Just getting to see it live now thanks to the beeb .. we have a few tricked up pin positions at our place and i know when they use them i come off the course saying what a stupid pin etc ..

the masters seems to have these nearly every hole , i can appreciate hard putts , tricky putts etc , if your the wrong side of a flag its hard or whatever , but to be a couple of inches out with a shot to the green and see your ball run 50/60 feet away seems a bit silly to me ... to have putts they are lucky to make rather than unlucky to miss etc ..

There is no right or wrong answer just opinions but whats ye'r thoughts ?, would you like to be facing golf like that regularly ?

Some shots have deserved better outcomes but at the end of the day they all have to play the same course...

It's like it every year and it's almost part of the event. It's Augusta's only real defence.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of greens that turn a decent shot into a bad one
Westwood's putt yesterday, although obviously a good read, was so lucky as to be unreal.
Yes he read it and yes he played it well but there's a huge slice of luck involved in it.
Wouldn't it better to have more greens like the 12th that are much more subtle and would bring out the skill of the player more?

Be interesting to see where they put the pins tomorrow. Perhaps the Par 5's difficult and the 4's a bit easier to score on? I can't see em making it über difficult although they do have their traditional Sunday pins.

Either way, its gonna be a cracking last day and it's anybody's.

And to answer one of the questions; Would I like to play on those greens , hell yeah!

Always thought the pros said they have to manage their approaches, play safe on the harder pins, and attack the easier ones. Can't see them being much different to previous years ... plus the greens are playing harder as the day goes on too.

absolutely love it. the old guys know where to miss. that's why they consistently turn up and perform! superb test of golf.

keeping the scoring low without having to chop it out of the rough. class! it may be long buts it not stupid long. barely a hybrid on show all weekend!

rewards old man par which is no bad thing!

Its great to see golf that isnt target golf - the players have to think to ensure they put the ball in the right place or put the right amount of spin on the ball. Its testing their abilities as opposed to just watching them fire at soft greens and stopping right next to the pin

I love it, it makes for amazing drama and along with the Open it is by far my favourite week of the year (plus the ryder cup of course) Like the open it is a test of different abilities and you can see shot making and course management rewarded.

Standard of play is very poor this year, look at the scores that the oldies are doing and the bunching if you want proof.

The course is looking silly, they did this in the 1980's with their super fast 'sand' greens and daft pin positions. Looks like crazy golf on occasions. They seem to have taken a step backwards.

It seems to me the same criticisms come up year after year and yet, year after year, IMHO, we get exciting finishes and worthy winners.

I trust the pros who actually play it and all the other majors and tour comps. How many of them say they don't like it and don't look forward to it?

The leaders are all under par - how can the standard of play be very poor ?

Do people want to see a birdie fest just like on your average tour tournament

Its a major - they are supposed to be tough

True, but that is only one definition of fair - the same for everyone. Other definitions and aspects include whether something is arbitrary and whether the punishment for a poor shot is proportionate or reasonable.

Big difference between tough and silly.

The Pros were quite critical of the pin positions on the first two days.
Any fool can place a pin in a position that makes it nearly impossible to play to.

Havent heard many pros complain about the pins ? Let me guess are they the ones that have struggled - all the guys under par dont seem to have had a major issue.

Do the pros want it easier to allow them more birdies ?

If people can go around the course 6 under par then there is nothing wrong with the pins and people can find birdies.

If no one was under par then possibly there could be an issue worth worrying about

They have just read out a few tweets from Pros - Greens hard and quick and like glass and perfect.

Sorry but its the same for everyone - put the ball in the right place and there will be no problems.

They're hardly likely to say anything different though, are they?

Seems to me this year they've gone a bit too far. Yes, you expect it to be hard and yes, they need to know where to miss but when the best players in the world struggle to hit it inside 6 feet, that suggests to me that the greens are playing unnecessarily hard.

I'm not enjoying this Masters as much as I have the last few years but maybe they'll set it up differently today and we'll get a bit of a shoutout.

I am in the love it camp, great spectacle, competition and drama, and very high standard of golf...The pro's love it
Most majors pro's have summat to say about pin placement. As for tough yes...Silly NO. I think the guys at Augusta no what they are doing.
