I don't doubt doubt your numbers but would love to see where they came from. Can't believe there were only 250,000 watching on Sky. It seems a very small number

I have Sky but elected to watch it on the Beeb. I'd rather listen to a bit of chat/analysis than watch the same adverts over and over.

Sadly the BBC haven't been interested in golf in decades. Their attitude and presentation hasn't changed and pulling out of the open early clearly states they've no interest. Like it or not Sky is the only way for many to watch live golf now and personally I don't think it's a bad thing. No one seems to be complaining about the way they've changed presentation of not just football but cricket and rugby and the time they invest to give a complete coverage. Seems somehow a few are simply not happy as it is Sky doing golf

Not a bad thing? What about the people who can't afford Sky? I've always liked having a choice, but I'm afraid with Sky buying up all the sport that's going to be a thing of the past.

Back to the OP, I bought the NOW TV box specifically for the golf before I knew live coverage was on the Beeb. I watched the live coverage on Friday on Sky and I can't say I was impressed, the adverts were doing my head in and the commentary wasn't that great. Saturday and Sunday viewing was on BBC for me.

What was the quality like on the Now TV box?

Think I'm going to buy one for the other majors/RC but haven't seen one in action.......

I much prefer BBC coverage over Sky, Sky have good elements and understand why people like them but for me they talk too much when it should be the pictures that do the talking, BBC know when to be quiet whereas I don't get the same impression from Sky.

The actual quality of the commentators is far superior for me as well, Brown is the best and it's sad that we don't get to see much of him anymore (we didn't really in the first place to be fair). I would like to see him break down some of the regular tour courses as well as it would add something more to the broadcast that is missing from Sky at times.

As for comments over Cotter, I don't know where they are coming from because I think he is an excellent commentator for calling the action as it happens, he provides a good insight to the proceedings without ever going over the top on matters. What is your gripe with him Homer?

Don't think he's the depth of knowledge, don't like the voice and don't like his commentary style. It's a personal preference and I'm sure he's more than competent to many on here and enhances their viewing. Just not mine

Cotter is ok until he starts with his Mystical Ramblings.

Reminds me of this guy..

See I really enjoy his ramblings, adds to the BBC aura. One of my favourite commentators in all of sport

I watched the first two days on my Boy's old Xbox 360 via an Ethernet cable....not as good quality as BBCHD for the last two days but perfectly good enough.
Now TV app was a free download and the npass cost a tenner for a week...

Prefer every single one of the BBC commentators over the Sky

McGinley is ok but Murray , Monty and Critchley are just awful to listen too - thankfully Roe , Holmes and "Radar" were nowhere to be seen

I watched some coverage on the Golf Channel on my Fire stick, via KODI...

Great HD picture.. Annoyingly get a 'message' when they go to adverts.. I like adverts...

Its preference. I dislike listening to Azinger and Cotter and neither do anything to enhance my viewing. Alliss is too old and out of touch and past his sell by, sadly. I like Butch, Murray and Critchley and think Boxall is developing into a decent broadcaster. All about preference, nothing more.

Watched on Sky Thursday & Friday, BBC on Saturday & Sunday. I don't have SkyHD so picture better on BBCHD via Freeview. Prefer the continuous coverage from BBC without ad breaks, I watch Golf every week on Sky but appreciate the BBC on nights like sunday. Disaster that they lost the Open, don't understand why some sharing of coverage couldn't be sorted out for all four majors. Cant stand Ewen Murray & Livingstone, but love Rich Beem & Rob Lee. All good though & a great English win.

I like Rich Beem as well, but he is wasted on the course at Augusta. Huge restrictions on where they can go. Send Monty out on the course, and get Rich in the studio. Butch is good as well, but the others on Sky range from ok, Murray, McGinley to awful, Monty, Barter and Critchley.

Dougherty and Howell are good, so hopefully they will be used more.

If the BBC stopped showing golf, I would never watch golf on TV in the UK again.

Sky is not for me. Ever.

Loved Masters breakfast and would love to see Lee, Howell and Dougherty get some form of weekly golf show. Reckon that would be great viewing

Forgot about the annoyance that is Barter !!

Beem is really good - again just speaks nicely and without drama.

You would hope they would look towards bringing in the New guard as such for the major comps - Lee , Stirk , Howell , Beem and Dougherty - the prob is Howell still plays week in week out so will only be around when he hasnt qualified.
