Man Utd can still win The Premiership

I don'y know dodger, I know Spain used to go around the provinces, and particularly Seville for important games, up to 10 years ago. Berlin - do you see Germany play their much?

Slime, I don't think this is a thread to go into politics heavily, but the city of Liverpool, and other northern cities felt abandoned by successive tory governments in the 80's. The media was and still is to a point very London-centric. The English FA - many Liverpool fans still want to see them answer for their part in Hillsborough. HS2, the olympics, Wembley rebuilt, Twickenham rebuilt - all in London. As a scouser we feel more in common with Geordies, Scottish and Irish than people from the south of England, in their yellow corduroys.;)

Successive top Liverpool players have gone on England duty and come back crocked. If I wanted to go and watch England at Wembley(£100 return rail, £100 half decent hotel for 1 night, £50 ticket, £100 few bevvies before and after)= £350. I went and watched the reds play in Prague the other year, flew easyjet and had a week in Prague for more or less the same.

I did get caught up in the Euro 96 atmosphere and went down to Wembley and watched 3 England games and loved it, I also seen them when they came to Anfield twice. I support England in major championships, put they will never be my passion. If they went on the road a bit more that passion may increase, but you still don't give a good reason why the can't play SOME of their matches away from Wembley.

Try and see it from a northern perspective, and you may understand why.

Netball - tight shorts, Mmm, nice.

Anyway, I'm sorry to take this off topic - I'll let some of you get back to the Man U bashing......;)

I'm sorry you feel that way. Maybe you'd go to see England if they played in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dublin or Belfast?
But ............... you could buy yourself some yellow corduroys and see how we feel! Maybe you'd be able to sympathise with us and show a modicum of pity
.

There is no good reason why England don't play all around the country, there are two financial reasons though, which are that their national stadium is in London and only Old Trafford comes close to being able to accomodate enough spectators. And just to put the record straight, I would far prefer it if England played all over the country. That was never going to happen though, at which point the national stadium should have been built somewhere, for instance, in The Midlands where folk from the north were not disadvantaged.

Good point, well made. I might have to re-think my opinions on that one!

No problems Liverbirdie, it's part of what makes this forum so good, as long as it doesn't become personal, and I, for one, have not taken any offence to any posts on this thread .......................... yet!

We are a tad off thread now but what the heck it's morphed into a bloody good thread.

I would cross a river full of crocs to watch Scotland but cost obviously comes into it.

A few years back we had a Wednesday/Saturday home match combo and I went to both that cost me around £300 in total by the time I paid for fuel, train, hotel, bevvy and tickets then the next month I went to Czech Republic game in Prague, flew to Munich, night there then train to Prague for a couple of nights there before doing the return and flying home from Munich again......4 nights, hotels, flights, tickets, transfers and bevvy cost me around the same £300 it had cost me to go to the 2 home games!!

That got me thinking that I would rather go away and see my team and since the introduction of the stupid Friday/Tuesdays so the big club sides can get their pampered prima donna's back in time for games I have not been to a home game and although I have not been to any away games I would have gone to 2 of the last campaign had it not been for things that clashed......................thank christ they did clash!!

The price of supporting your country at home is becoming over the top but that said I would probably still pay it as for me it's country first then club side second.....just.;)
Dodger, genuine question. If Celtic were in the champs league final and Scotland were in a final qualifier away match to get to a world cup and you could only go to one, which would you pick? I think for a lot of people, depending on how their club sides are doing can have an effect on their choosing. Did Chelsea fans watch England a lot 20 odd years ago, but when you are getting to champs league semis and finals, have they left England behind to go to them more?

Tough one.... Celtic will never ever ever again be in that position but I would like to think that in my lifetime Scotland will;) so it may have to be Celtic on that occasion.....that said it is possible neither will happen in the hopefully 40 years I may have left on this earth. I have said that regardless of where the championship is being held I am going to the next one Scotland get to......I had the chance of France 98 and didn't go and instead went on holiday with the then bird....what was all that about eh,driven by a fumble instead of the beautiful game!!! I have regretted it ever since!

I think following England then was more passionate and a great atmosphere home and abroad, that has now died in some ways. Irrelevant of new successes, I am a club before country man now and think to a degree I always have been.

If you have never been to an international tournament overseas then do it if you can, you wont regret it

Forum meet France 2016???? :whoo:

Anyone want to buy a Manchester United lamp? It looks really good in the middle of the table.

Games are played in Glasgow only due to the biggest independent Stadium being there and also the fact that it's the home of the FA and needed paid for..........a bit like somewhere else I know of.

Glasgow is the home of football in Scotland, and as such the majority of internationals should be played at Hampden, the same with cup finals.Aberdeen and Edinburgh get a few internationals, and on that point I think the balance is pretty decent.

What's not decent is the arrangements for semi finals,in the SC it's always Hampden, no matter what teams and it can look daft. The LC is even worse...look at this years semis Hearts vs ICT...where, maybe half way between the two cities, Tannadice maybe?Nope.Easter Road, on a Sunday with an early kickoff with no train running to get ICT fans down in time.Mental.

Compared to the overall cost, the additional cost of the travel - compared with what it would be if it was relatively local, is tiddly!

As BiM states...It's not a cheap day out! It's actually a bleeding expensive one. It would cost more than I am prepared to pay - and I'm pretty local!

Mind you, simply taking the sprog to Your/His PL Home game is likely to cost £200 or more!

A mate went to Chelski's CL victory and the total cost - tickets and return transport - was only £300. There are some peculiar values in Football!

PS. Will it be any cheaper/more efficient with HS2?

Just to pick up on a few points. Last year when the 'tics played 3 times at Wembley (FA Cup Semi/Final and Charity Shield), the cost to me would have been in the region of £1500 for myself, my wife and 2 kids. The ticket prices would have been approximately a third of that.

The bulk of the cost would have been travel. The train was extortionate, and the fact that the FA captulated and made kick off after 5pm meant that getting the return train would have been a lottery (and we woud have had to leave before the final whistle).

It isn't just the geographical location that is a problem. It's the Kick off time as well. Ironically enough, it was cheaper and easier for my sister and her family to fly in from Southern Spain for the final than it would have been for me to get my brood there.

Also, your point regarding ticket prices seems to be aimed at big clubs only. Last seasons ticket prices at Wigan meant that taking the boy to a PL game cost about £50. And that includes a couple of drinks and the all important pie at half time.

Is correct, although you have me at a disadvantage when making a point, as you obviously have a pack of 30 felt-tip pens for xmas.:)

I think UTD will struggle to make the top four let alone the championship. They have lost an import advantage. Its called the Fear Factor, mid table clubs no longer fear them or fear the trip to old Trafford and will go for the win. They most certainly will not be content with playing for a draw at home

I think if Liverpool can stay in touch come the transfer window, they will regain some thing they lost. Good players will want to sign for them. they lost that position 20 years or more ago
