Man Utd can still win The Premiership

Which club is it ?

It's getting harder to be passionate about any football these.

Never been passionate about England - never had the connection I have with my club

I went week in week out to the ground surrounded by fellow fans and felt the passion and it grew in me. It was nothing getting picked up by my uncle to go to the game - he went in for a pre match drink whilst I stood outside with other kids kicking a ball ( or a crushed can ) with all the other kids. Then 30 mins before walking to the ground with thousand others and then standing all swaying and singing and moving as one as your team thrilled you to the bone. Then wailing home each sat trying to recreate the latest Kenny or Rush goal with your friends.

You couldn't do that with England - you couldn't get the connection , we couldn't get tickets , it was all down south. We sometimes watched it on a B/W telly to see football but no connection to the team because it wasn't our team.

That's how I and my friends grew into football and became part of Liverpool Football Club and we always be there. No team will ever match that passion or connection

Fair enough Phil, a good point argued well.
It's just different for me. I just can't understand a fan as passionate as yourself not being passionate about England, your national team. I'm so looking forward to the World Cup and I'm presuming that you're not.
Hey, ho. Different strokes for different folks. As long as that is accepted, (rather than understood necessarily), we'll all get along fine.
There is no right or wrong, just differences of opinion, upon which I judge no-one. After all, it's only football.

Good post

I am looking forward to the World Cup as I love exciting football.

I enjoyed watching England during 90 WC and Euro 96 - I got swept up in the fans desire but then Beckham arrived and it wasn't about the football - it was the media circus that surrounded him because the football that was dished up was dour and painful and unexciting and couldn't grab the nation. It was even worse in the last WC and Euros. With Woy in charge ( after witnessing first hand the football he serves up ) I can't see England exciting anyone. If they just went for it a bit more then possibly could see more getting excited regardless of results. That's why I like watching teams like Spain - full of attacking flair and a joy to watch.

Whoa!! Just had a flashback.
I had an uncle Pete who lived on Grasmere St. just of Breck Road.
I can vividly remember a few Saturday dinner times playing football in the streets, whilst my dad and uncle Pete had a few in either The George or The King Charles? Sometimes both.
A lot less traffic in those days though(mid 70s').
Good memories, although my old mum might not agree.

Graham Sourness is a member at Parkstone , loves talking about his playing days , says his highlight was beating Roma in Rome to win the Champions league ...........he scored his penalty ..........I watch the game ..........EYG

Lets be honest here Alex Ferguson is a winner , he thrives on winning , its like oxygen in his veins , do you think he would have walked out on a UTD team that was capable of winning the prem? i dont think he would for a second if he thought he had a chance .

Moyes inherited an old team , without the considerable help of David Gill to help him get new players in , they failed miserably to get players to join them in the summer , why was that ? because their targets could see the team was not as strong as it should be, if you have a quality side , quality players will want to join you .. if you dont , they wont ..

Personally i think utd will struggle to finish in the top 4 , and this is going to further hinder Moyes attempts to bolster the squad ..
What he needs to do is get in 3 or 4 players in Jan window , players that are first 11 quality , it wont be easy but its a neccesity IMO ..

Also IMO Moyes did a good job at Everton , in a club with restricted budget we were mostly there or there abouts the the european places ,

it does make me wonder how RM could get such good loan deals tho , maybe better contacts or scouts ..
that has me scratching the old grey matter a bit .. not complaining tho ..:)

Great post..just how I was brought into football with Newcastle United.....the passion for club and country will NEVER compare.

Same here with Crystal Palace but my country will always come first, simply because they are Englishmen, all good enough to be chosen to play at the top level and want to win for ME

My club side, which I am a season ticket holder, the players are assembled from various parts of the world and all of them, as good/bad players that they are, are just hired hands. Yes they respect the fans desire to win, stay up and succeed but ultimately they are working for a living but playing for your country is different!

Scouse Liverpool fans not feeling passionate about England is not a new thing. In the early eighties when Liverpool as a city was much maligned, and as elsewhere, was seeing jobs empty out of the city. The city was on its knees and there didn't feel like much help coming from Westminester (Tory) governments. The shining light was our football team, giving us European and worldwide fame. It also gave thousands of scouse lads a good excuse to travel, for football, as well as nefarious reasons. We didn't have nothing in common with Londoners, England never played at Anfield, Goodison or anywhere else but Wembley. They re-built Wembley and said all the games would be getting played there for 20 more years, even after going to the provinces and enjoying full houses, good results and better atmospheres. England throughout the 80's were followed by Stoke, Darlington and a hundred other lower league clubs, judging on the union jacks - It wasn't us. If anything lots of us had a soft spot form Scotland due to Hansen, Dalglish, Souness, Nicol and Gillespie. When the WC and euro champs are on, scousers will support England, but not with any great passion generally, that is reserved for our clubs. We might be 3-4 hours away from London, but we may as well be in Greenland, culturally or for what we perceive as in common with Engerlund. BTW I don't agree with calling any other fans "Scum".

But you'd go to Greenland to watch Liverpool?

Why not, I've been to Moscow, Boston, Baltimore, Istanbul (twice), Turin............and another 25.

I've also been to Anfield to watch England, seen Italy, Bulgaria too in Euro96 at Anfield. If England and the FA made England travel round the country like Spain, Italy and others do, they may get more support. Instead they are fleecing the nations fans into paying for Wembley by signing a 20 year contract to keep them there as well as playing the FA cup semis there also. Northern fans paying for a southern stadium.

There aren't enough stadia with suitable capacity, only Old Trafford comes close.
It's a national stadium in the nation's capital.
I'm sorry if it happens to be in the south, it's just that London happens to be there.
English fans paying for an english stadium.

A great amount of grounds could hold internationals - they did for 6 years was it ? Old Trafford , St James , Stadium of Light , Anfield plus more all capable of holding international games

If it wants to truly be a team for the whole country then get the team to play around the country and make the team accessible for the whole country.

People are going to struggle to justify the cost to travel down to London plus buying the tickets.

Why, how many internationals do England sell out? Even then 52,000 at St. James's (and a full house)would be better than 60,000 at Wembley and 3/4 full of booing cockneys. Remind me where Scotland's national stadium is - Glasgow, which isn't the capital. Spain used to always play crunch matches in Seville, as the home support was more partisan. England for all of England is what I say.

Notwithstanding my views on the FA (self-serving fools), the cost (ridiculous) or the location (horrendous) of the 'National' stadium nor the gesture of showing the National Team to the plebs (historic meaning), arguments about cost to get to Wembley are just silly imo!

Why are they silly ?

It costs a lot of money for people to travel down to London from midlands/north regions/south west regions

But they can justify the cost of travel all over Europe and beyond to watch their club.
If they can do that they can surely justify the relatively short trip down to London.

You can't force someone to love something, you have to make it attractive. The FA aren't bothered about us up here. Too late. You still don't answer why they should keep all the internationals in London. You still don't understand that we don't have a connection with England. It's like me saying to you that you should go and support England netball team, they play in London, it's cheap, you're English - you have no excuse not to go....

Because it's their club mate

As I said earlier - the club that they grew up with

If England truly wanted to be a full country team then play around the whole country and not just London.
