going to the Trophy night meaningfull now. Yeah Guys I won. Scratch Matchplay Champion 2010.
1st time our club has played this event and yours trully wins it.
Final this morning, very windy with the threat of downpours.
We played in a 4ball with me partnering 1 guy and him with 1 of our pro's. So we had the BIG match plus the added presure of a 4ball match. Plus we were in an open stableford competition, not a great way of playing a final.

Started off with a nice par to go 1 up, then I 3 putted the next 2 greens made triple on the 4th to go 1 down. Got my act together on 6 7 and 8 to go 1 up, then lost 9, all square after 9, made bogie on 10 to go 1 down but won next 3 holes to go 2 up. Still 2 up after 15. Then he made birdies on 16 & 17, standing on 18th tee all square. Thinking to myself, here we go again.
I hit a cracker drive into a strong wind, he let his go slightly right but he still could get well up with his 2nd. I hit a good 2nd shot. Both 20yrds from the pin in 2 shots, Him to go 1st, opppp's, he duffed his chip. I pitched to inches of the hole, thus having a gimmie for the match unless he holes his 4th, he didn't. I felt really good having had a titanic battle in very brezzy condititions.
Very pleased with myself having won a trophy this year.

Well done CC :)

Got to agree with Imurg though. I'm sure I read on here actually about someone playing a matchplay and stableford at the same time and getting dq'd from both.

Forget that though, the deed is done.

Congrats again!!

I agree with Imurg that I didn't think you could play both a stableford and a matchplay. What happens to conceded putts and holing out in the stableford? I thought the rule was once a putt was conceded the hole was considered finished

Well done Ian - played today and wind was wild!!!!

When playing different formats at the same time I persume you would just have towath out for rule differences esp if you get a 2 shot penalty or loss of hole - suppose you could play both comps if you hold out all putts.

We had this same discussion a while back and here is where it is clarified:

Rule 33-1. Conditions; Waiving Rule
The Committee must establish the conditions under which a competition is to be played.

The Committee has no power to waive a Rule of Golf.

Certain specific Rules governing stroke play are so substantially different from those governing match play that combining the two forms of play is not practicable and is not permitted. The results of matches played and the scores returned in these circumstances must not be accepted.

As every ball was put into the hole, I dont see any problem, the competition was the most important one on the day, the matchplay was just like a side bet. There were no putts given as we agreed before hand.

Can't see a problem with that to be honest.
We've done that loads of times.
Not in an official competition mind you, but as long as you finished out on every hole for the main competition it's just a side bet as you say
;)

The problem is that you've broken the rules. You can't agree to waive a rule and as Rick's pointed out its against the rules to combine Matchplay and Strokeplay. If its in a friendly game like Smiffy's then who's going ot complain but in a proper comp is dodgy.
Ok, in practice, it doesn't seem to have made a difference but if some jobsworth complains then you may both be DQ'd.
Not detracting from the achievement at all but rules is rules is rules.........

I have to agree I'm afraid.
You can't play in an Open stableford competition AND a final of a matchplay knockout.
I'm surprised the pro playing with you didn't know

Seems you were a bit light on games to play there, couldn't you fit in a game of poker whilst you were walking between shots? Paper, scissors, stone on the tee?
