Very lucky this week to meet Luke Donald in Chicago. Also fortunate that the weather held on for us to film for 5 hours on Tuesday.

First - Luke's short game is better than you could imagine. It's better than you could imagine anyone's short game to be.

Throw a ball just about anywhere within 50 yards of a green - and its an up and down for certain.

Luke spent a minute or so explaining the shot he was about to hit - then he hit it. Perfectly.

No warm up. Straight out and perfect execution.

180 yard draw into a wind: done
165 yard fade into wind: done
plugged bunker shot: done

Really was a clinic from someone at the very top of their game.

Luke's very comfortable as world #1. There were no platitudes about it just being a number, or how lucky he was etc etc. He thinks he's earned it and will work hard to keep it.

Anyway - we should have the Masterclass ready in a couple of weeks. There's not much editing to do.

Meanwhile - these are the irons Luke bought to the shoot. In fairness we asked him to bring his 'next' set rather than the MP-62's he's been using.

Luke said he's too sensitive to change while he's in a run of playing regularly. If he gets a few weeks off switching isn't a big deal. He hit these irons very well while we were with him.

That's an extract from Mizuno's own website, the bag they pictured had the MP59 irons, surprised if he uses them over the 69's but Mizuno are marketing them bigtime. Looking forward to the masterclass based on what they say above.

LOL LUKE's like (see what I did) that I'm the only one interested in the world #1 and his masterclass and new irons:)

was it you who posted those other videos of Luke playing with his brother? Found those very interesting and I'm looking forward to this masterclass as well.

Darth, maybe he wants to stick with small cavities (mp62-59) - after all his livelihhod does depend on it!

yes maybe he does, however with that swing he could even win with a Ping:eek:

however, I'm sure Mizuno will pay him very well to play 59's, more forgiving? well does a forgiving club make any difference at that level, I have my doubts it makes a difference at any level

I saw the original info over on the Mizuno Forum and await their footage of the masterclass with relish. However, I really don't think that Luke will bag MP59s next season. They are too different from what he's used to playing. Mizuno will not really expect Luke to play MP59s, they are just using this as a marketing tool. Last year they had footage of Luke playing shots with the JPX clubs and hitting the ball much longer than he normally plays it. He certainly didn't bag JPX irons this year ;)

We'll just have to wait and see what transpires during the off season and see if Luke finds anything that inspires enough confidence to take his current world beating bats out the bag. As look says himself, he only changes if the new clubs are better.

From what you hear rumor wise and yes I know its only rumor, Luke won't even be a Mizuno staff player next year!

Any after a cheeseburger and fries, washed down with strawberry milk down the mall!
