Support group. All welcome!! 🤣😂

Started again to try get some consistency and (back) into good habits. Very much a yo-yo dieter who will go all in, see progress and then slip into old ways.

Lost about a stone and a half over the last 18 months, felt great on holiday this summer and then decided to carry on holiday drinking, eat badly and not going to gym as much. Was looking around Instagram for help, entered a competition and won a 90 day coaching programme so I'm back in.

Wondered if a thread would help people stick to a plan, ask for advice etc

Small goals, realistic but challenging to you.

I ran this years Great North Run and have decided at the age of 60 no more of that distance, I have a 10K on 3rd Nov and was really struggling after the GNR to get out and train.

Last sunday in Sept I decided I would run a minimum of 5K every day between then and 2 Nov, 35 days in total, ran 16th of 35 today, absolutely killing me😂😂 but I know it’s a short term aim and mentally I can stick with it, the 4-6 months of training I did for the GNR was a massive struggle.

Good luck with what your doing and the old cliche, “the hardest bit is leaving the house”

Edit: One further thing, don’t worry what others can do, concentrate on yourself.

We are all built differently so we process food differently, we are different shapes and sizes and what works for one person may not work for you.

I'm currently going to a ,what I would call a fat clinic , only two more sessions and then I can have these weight loss injections. I have lost a stone in the last two months so I'm headed the right way. 😁. Ideally I would I to lose another four stone ,it won't be easy as I suffer from COPD so exercise is very much a struggle as I get very short of breath very easily. ☹️. I've cut out a spoonful of sugar in my tea and eating smaller portions and so far it's working but I think I'm going to need to do more .
I have just taken up bowls again and hopefully that will get me moving a bit more.
The biggest problem with dieting or weight loss is that you don't see instant results unlike if you were to stop smoking for example.
Good luck with it if you are trying to lose a few pounds. 👍

I think you may find that in tomorrows news is the governments promise of more diet injections to get folk losing weight and kick starting the economy by getting overweight people working. Now I am not turning this into a political thread. But I am somewhat sceptical that angle of getting the nation fitter is right. Unfortunately for me/ my opinion, there is no easy fix. A good balance between exercise and diet is the way to go for most people. And it not easy. However you are investing in yourself. And if that is not an incentive, I don’t know what is.
Good luck to all who are looking to get fitter.👍

I'm now 14 stone for the first time since I can remember. I remember back in 2015 when I was training for a 10k I managed to get under 12 stone - a distant memory now. Last time I was 14 stone must have about 13 years ago.

I just can't get any exercise in. I used to play football three times a week, now it's one kickabout on a Thursday and we just had a month off from that. I used to go for a run every now and then but I've done one in the last 12 months I think. Find it so hard to fit it in now. On my office days I get home at 6ish, we feed my daughter, get her ready for bed, do our own dinner, by the time we've eaten it it could be 9pm already and I'm just not feeling going out for a run then. On my work from home days I'd rather go to the driving range these days. Weekends is golf one day, family time the other. Need to fit it in somewhere. The takeaways and desserts can't be sustained otherwise.

Don’t do a diet - change what you eat. Smaller portions (gradually) and maybe cut out meat a couple of times a week. I have done this and it is easy to stick to . Diets where you are weighing things and counting things sap the life and enjoyment out of eating and that is why a lot of people struggle to stick to them.
With exercise, start with little steps (pun intended) with walks in the morning or evening but make sure you build up the distance and speed, no gentle strolling.

I flip flop in weight. In summer when I am at the club in the summer I am drinking and eating crap for dinner and I put weight on. Come the winter when I am in most nights and eaten decent home made food the weight seems to drop as I am eating properly, not massive portions and the empty calories of beer have gone

Yes, the calorie deficit/counting is a real pain. I think one of the benefits is that is does remind you how many calories there are in certain foods/meals.

Hope this thread is helpful for us that are even just trying to keep going. It's so difficult to fit everything in and choose the right foods etc and harder when you get over a certain age to drop the weight for various reasons.

Thanks for starting this @Marshy77 it could be just what I need since I’m tentatively back on a diet/fitness drive

In 2022 I shed 5st going from 16st to 11st by dramatically reducing the daily calorie intake and taking one hour daily exercise to get some fitness (mostly walking/light jogging)
I’m 11.8st at the moment so only want to shift about 10-12 lbs this time which is really only about 6/7 weeks effort but despite knowing the benefits 1st hand it’s a bit too easy to fall off the wagon this time round. It should be a doddle, last time I dropped 70lbs in 10 months

Last time I changed my annual step count from less than a million per year to 3 million in 2022 and did work with hand weights but the motivation somehow isn’t as strong as it was. Maybe because I know 11.8st isn’t anywhere near as bad as I was (a bit like shooting buffer on the course, I can do better but buffers ok isn’t it!)

My motivation is to get back to 70kg (11st) inside 2 months, in time to caddy for the DPWT event at home course the week before xmas. I’m 2 years older now & in my late fifties, so my joints are telling me jogging isn’t as easy so it’ll be mostly walking / weights for exercise but I really need to kick the snacking into touch to get calories under control

I’ve been on a bit of a diet journey over the last 5 or 6 months. I got on the scales back in April and I was a smidge under 17 stone 😱 my weight last night was a fraction over 14 stone with another 1 and a bit stone to lose.
I’m not going to lie or 🐂 💩 you all, I’ve been using Wegovy injections since May which really do work if you’re prepared to put in some work, they slow down your digestion so you get full really quickly. It isn’t a magic bullet though, I’ve almost had to eat like a monk for most of the time, no bread, crisps, snacks, chocolate etc a complete change of thought process with how I eat.
I pay privately for the injections btw 👍

Lost about a stone and a half in the last 10 months. 3 sessions in the gym a week and just cutting portion sizes etc. The motivation, separating from my wife. Amazing how having to get back in the dating game at 50 motivates you to take a bit more care about your appearance and fitness :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I’m just under 2 stone down since this time last year, I’ve been hitting the gym since July and it’s made a massive difference to my physique, I’m on holiday right now and it’s amazing the confidence it gives you, I’ve been to the gym 3 times since arriving last Thursday, would never of went before on holiday 😂😂
It is a journey though, I’ve followed Mike Matthews book, Bigger, Leaner Stronger since July.

You do have time, you just choose not to use it for exercise. When you work from home I suspect you don’t start as early as no commute? Go for an hours walk before work.
I saw a good thing on Instagram last week which said that many parents would die for their children, but what they should really focus on is living for their children. Stay as fit and healthy as you can and savour the time with kids - birthdays, weddings, graduation etc and don’t become a burden so they spend all their time looking after you and not living their best life.

God no, that's just not for me. I need the extra sleep - then from 7 ish I get my little one ready for nursery. I go for a 20 minute walk at lunch every day. That's obviously not doing a lot though. And now we're getting into winter there will be days where it's too miserable for it. Motivation is hard when your only free time is an hour or two in the evening, and your options are go for a run or take a bit of me time and watch something with the wife. It's nearly always going to be the latter.

Use your little one as motivation- what bigger thing is there than that?
