Hey WGC2.

Best of the bunch at that price has to be the MD wedges. Either the Cobalt/Nickel Players or the Norman Drew. Unbeatable at that price. As good, if not better than the big names.

WGC2, I notice you are a young lad with a 28 handicap. Can give you some honest advice, bear with me.
I bought a 60 degree mizuno wedge a year or two ago playing of 6 and no matter how much practice range time I spent with it, I couldnt honestly judge it enough to keep it in my bag. I sold to a forum member here, and bought a lower lofted wedge and it has been great.
60 degree wedges are like sexy girlfriends, they are nice to be seen with but are high maintenance (sp) and rarely perform for you.
Practice with what you have, the flop shot can still be done with 56 degree degree but doesnt cost you space in your bag and playing of 28 you can afford to just aim for the middle of the green and use your shots on the card to your advantage.
Why risk a solid 5 with a flop shot that might not make the green/land in a bunker or even worse, thin it across the green and make 7 when you can just play the percentage shot. Your handicap will tunble once you start realising safer shots.

If you alreadty have a sandwedge then you have what you need, itll be 56 or very close, your other option is to junk the standard spalding sw and buy a vokey spin mill or MD norman Drew spin wedge, they are milled and will be a hell of an improvement at stoping the ball over your standard sw.

Try one or two different sand wedges you may find one that suits but as for the 60 degree, well its already been said. If you feel you must try one, go get a 5 quid one from jjb or somewhere then you will get an idea.

I get what brendy is saying but I am a 27 h/cap and am a demon with a 60* in my hands hence why I carry it.

I think if you can use it, use it as it is such a versatile club.
Jon, (this is meant tongue in cheek, just to warn you, its meant with affection :D)
How are you still playing of 27 if you can use a 60 degree effectively.

Seriously though, I cant agree that its a versatile club, it only does high lobs, a 6 iron, now thats a versatile club. You can hook, slice, cut, draw, hit low, open the face and chip with it. The lob wedge is like a trophy wife, at its best it only does one thing well. :D

Missus Doyle from Father Ted, old faithful! She sticks to what shes good at but can be adapted for slight variations, ie sandwichs and tea mainly but can re-slate a roof if needed.

WGC2 If you're close to Bradford you can have a JJB 60 and 64 degree wedge for free.I did what Herb advocates months ago and can't hit either of them. The offer goes to anyone on here but they're not worth traveling far for they probably cost £15 for the pair of them.

Different people have different ideas about 60' wedges, for some they are for people trying to show off (showboating) or too much or a risk to thin. I say, you can thin any iron in your bag, just as easily as another, & generally happens when you get scared of a shot or a club. Thing is the greater the loft the greater the difference in the resulting difference in distance a thinned shot will go to how far it should go, hence the missconception about 60' wedges being difficult to use when its really not the case & shouldn't be.(imo).

If anyone thinks a 60' wedge is too much loft, they should try a 64' lobwedge. Now there is a club to showboat with especially when you start opening up the face, though few manufacturers produce one. I've got a 64' lob in the understairs cupboard, used it very sucsessfully when I first started playing, but feel very little need for it currently, especially as most the courses I play don't have deep pot bunkers & I can produce the same shot with my 60' or even sand wedge anyway if I open it up enough or alter the shaft to ground angle at address. I've even heard of people doing the same with a 4 iron, the famous story is the one about Faldo & Seve as regards the 4 iron out of the bunker.

My best mate as far as golfing is concerned (the one who tried to chop down a tree with his 58' lob wedge) was always of the opinion that 60' was too much loft & no-one needed that much never mind 64'. Next thing his replacement lobwedge is guesswhat... 60' & also guess what... he loves his new wedge.
