With my current hybrid struggles I'd quite like to experiment with adding a 4 iron to the bag instead. Does anyone have one they're willing to sell? I'm after something as forgiving as possible, and around 20°.

Ideally Callaway Steelhead XR as that's my current set, or something like Callaway XR OS maybe. Failing that though, I'll consider anything at the 'game improver' end of things. Anyone with a spare 4 iron gathering dust?

Srixon 545

Forged so feels lovely and looks the business. Very forgiving and goes MILES

Edit sorry - Thats just a recommendation:D. Mine is not for sale!

I suppose here in lies the problem with strong lofted irons. He's looking for a 4 (needs 20 deg) iron so in these would have to buy a 3 iron in the srixon for instance. So his 4 iron would be stronger that my MP4 3 iron in terms of loft.

so you have to be careful what you look at, I would suggest looking for one to match your set, on fleabay or golf bidder

I don't really want a 'forged' one anyway. Looking for maximum game improver level here. I have been having a look at ebay, the problem is extremely few people are selling one single iron - it's all sets.

I suppose I could buy a 4-PW set of irons and then sell it as a 5-PW set. That seems like a lot of effort though. On the upside if I'm smart I could basically get a 4 iron for near enough free or maybe even for profit, lol.

I’ve a Wilson Staff C200 4 iron never been hit. KBS Regular shaft

Cheers, that would have been a good one but I've just looked up the lofts online and that one is 22° whereas my 5 iron is 23° so it's probably too similar to go for.

Is this for use off the tee or fairway? Or both?

I assume for tee shots, in which case I’d consider a driving iron type club. I used to really struggle with hybrids and I attribute that to the head being lightweight compared to an iron and I therefore couldn’t feel where the face / clubhead was.

A driving iron should help with that. Possibly not super forgiving though....

I think you are in danger of getting misled by loft (and endless misleading jacked loft threads on here)

Clubhead design impacts on launch angle and spin (and just because they look similar doesn't mean they perform in a similar manner) plus the additional shaft length increases the clubhead speed. In exactly the same way as a 22° hybrid won't launch and fly the same as a 22° iron for the same swing conditions.

Well preferably both. Something for long second shots that doesn't slice or hook on a whim, but would also be handy for tight tee shots where you need to be pretty straight.

I know you're right, but I think it's still a gamble to buy an iron that's the same loft from a different manufacturer. It may launch completely differently, but on the other hand I may just end up with the same club twice.
