It's my mates 50th next June and we are looking to have a Saturday night away with 2 rounds of golf. 1 Sat Pm and 1 Sunday am. A mixture of golfers from 10HC to no HC.
Looking to venture no further then 100 miles of Cambridge.
At the moment I have a few on the shortlist. Can anyone recommend these or add your own suggestions.

The Belfry
Forest Pines
Belton Woods
Stoke by Nayland
Hansbury Manor
Forest of Arden
Breadsall Priory

Just really looking to get there early afternoon..have a round then relax and have some food and a few drinks. Don't want to venture from the hotel. Breakfast early then an earlyish tee off on the Sunday.

Looking for a Dinner B&B package.
Am I better off ging direct with the venue or through YGT or Golfbreaks?

Cheers Chaps.

I have been to the Belfry, Forest Pines, Belton Woods and Forest of Arden. Out of those for me it would be Forest Pines they have 3 loops of 9 holes which they swap around each day I believe. I really enjoyed the golf there thought the courses were great. Draw back Drinks and Snacks are expensive and not near much night life around. But the Hotel is top notch.

Thanks for that. Price of drinks etc will not be that much of a bother as living in Cambridge over £4 a pint is the norm. Not too bothered about nightlife either. More interested in a good hotel and could course.

Stay away from Breadsall Priory, the hotel and golf courses are very poor in comparison with the others listed.

Forest Pines is a great venue. Usually in good nick and tree lined everywhere (as you'd probably expect from the name). The only criticism would be the elephants buried in the greens that are far too fast for the slopes. Good fun but a bit tricked up if you are serious golfers. I've not played many of the others so can't comment but I'd bet there are better courses with just as good hotel but that said, may be more money eg Belfry etc.

The Belfry - never really been a fan but was there recently and they have spent millions on the place and was very impressed by how much it had improved (albeit £4 for a coffee and theyll soon recoup the outlay)

Forest Pines - not been

Belton Woods - pleasant enough but found the courses in not the greatest of condition (they get a lot of traffic), wouldnt be my choice on this list

Stoke by Nayland - adequate hotel and excellent food, much smaller than most of the others on your list. 2 good courses but again seem to get a lot of traffic and were in at best "ok" condition last yr when i was there

Hansbury Manor - used to live not far and always liked Hanbury, good golf course always in excellent condition though may feel a bit of a slog to those with no hcaps. Best quality of the hotels on the list (but i expect the priciest too)

Forest of Arden - am a big fan, as long as youre not playing there in winter as gets very very wet. Another recently updated hotel, the Arden is a cracking course (especially the back 9), not such a fan of the Aylesford

Breadsall Priory - not been back for many a year and in no hurry to do so

One other maybe worth considering is Stapleford Park, not been but heard good things and hoping to get there at some point

Abbotsley is on your doorstep. 32 of us recently had 2 nights DBB and 3 rounds for £175 and I was very impressed by the Abbotsley course - not so much the Cromwell.

Cheers Mate..Don't want to go too far. 2 hour drive max. Forest Pines is about the limit northwise and The Belfry to the north west.

Stableford park isn't too bad. Nice easy course and in June will be in good nick. The clubhouse is just OK with no atmosphere at all, I have stayed at the hotel twice and its expensive and the food is just OK, Nothing special but they like to think it is. The course gets very wet in the winter.

You can play the course via tee off times for £20.

Go direct with the venue. How many have handicaps and how many don't?

Fundy, if you are looking to play Stapleford Park let me know. My brother and all my old playing partners from Stoje Rochford have just joined there so can get us a guest rate.

You are in grave danger of annoying senior GM staff - quote from one of them on another current thread:

"But the most irritating is perhaps Stapleford... it's Stableford not Stapleford; it's Stableford not Stapleford; it's Stableford not Stapleford... see, doesn't really annoy me...much!"
