OK This is very much in the formative stage but I'm thinking about playing in the longest day challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer.

I'm looking for a team of 4 to play. To make it more fun than just four rounds on the same track I'm going to write to several local courses and see if we can get on with the finish at Royal Ascot. I'm looking at clubs including Mill Ride, The Berkshire, Sand Martins, Downshire, Blue Moutain and of course Royal Ascot.

The date I'm looking at provisionally would be Friday June 19th and so if you fancy making a team up let me know. If there is sufficient interest I'll see what we can do about getting more teams involved.

More details can be found here:

I have toyed with doing this myself,my idea was a 4 ball starting at Dunbar then moving onto Eyemouth then to the Field, sorry Magdalene Fields G.C ;). in Berwick then onto Goswick to finish up the day.Would do it for Diabetes UK but I have never got around to actually doing it and we always seem to go on our annual golf trip abroad at that time of year. One year I will do it but the sooner the better as I aint getting any younger!

I'm doing one this year. Four rounds on the longest day in order to raise money for the junior section. Should be a good day but won't be able to walk for a few days after.

My pal's doing this, too... by boat.

He's playing Royal Dornoch, Fortrose & Rosemarkie, A.N. Other (can't remember) & Nairn and they're being ferried across the various Firths in a launch. He's playing with Gavin Hastings apparently.

I must say Homer, your a brave man. I did this about 4 years ago with 23 others at my last club. 05:00 start and a very long day. Think I slept for 2 days after. Although I won't volenteer my playing services, I will certainly sponsor you. Good luck.

I played two rounds in one day and was shattered from that. Good luck Homer, I too will sponsor you but not sure I could handle a whole day on the golf course.

I did a four round scramble round four different courses maybe 20 years ago. Wasn't that bad till we finished, then fatgiue hit us. Absolutely knackered it has to be said.

I think nowadays intensive training (ie. a bag full of Red Bull) would see me through. :D

The problem is our two rounds were in the club championship, lunch was free inbetween rounds but consisted of chips, 3 sausages and beans. Felt like having a nap not playing 18more holes.

I'd love to do something like this. I'd need plenty of batteries for my motocaddy, or carry a very light bag of clubs. Don't think I'd get many rounds in around Lichfield G&CC judging by the usual time taken queueing up round there. Mind you if everyone else during the longest day sets a reasonable pace for a change it might be possible.

Would love to join in but my knees and ankle wouldn't stand up to it - I'd probably get halfwau round the 3rd round and need a stretcher!!

I think if I am being realistic this would need to be done at a local level. I've got HTL and myself on board for a Surrey challenge but its easy to register on the Macmillan site so anyone on here can get a team (or teams) and give it a go. I'm sure if there's enough takers I could make a feature in the forum pages.

Would love to do this but having played 45 holes in a day once, which ended in my left knee being shot for ages, I am going to have to give it a swerve.

Waiting for a date to see the consulant regarding getting some more cartiledge removed actually as we speak.

In 2006 me and a mate did this off our own backs for a local Children's Wish Charity. We pulled our trolleys for 90 holes. I lost 2 and 1 (despite a birdie on the 88th hole) after being 14 down with 28 to play, but I won by 3 stableford points!

We went from 05:30 to 21:15, and were absolutely knackered, but managed to raise £4000. For us the key was that the club knew we were doing it, we had readily identifiable shirts on and people just moved aside to wave us through so we could get round. I'd recommend it, but I'm afraid I don't have the holiday to support it this year.

Good luck to all who do have a go though!

Do we have to do it at four different clubs? Would be a nightmare to schedule around the Surrey tractors on the school run and rush hours.

Bolded bit is so true. The last club we played was mine, but the other three we were given courtesy of the course as guests. On the second of these we got in behind the Thursday morning seniors knock around. Having waited a couple of minutes on the second tee, our most diplomatic player was sent up the fairway to ask the codgers to let us through as we were on a charity knock. He got asked 3 times if we were members, before grudgingly giving way. It was bloody unbelievable, and this was in no way a snooty club.
