If your ex or current forces I'd stay at the union jack club. https://ujc.org.uk/ - Bars decently priced for London, foods good, rooms I've stayed here a few times. Plus being slap bang next to waterloo you can get around easily.

To get to WEST HAM via the tube it's the Jubilee line.

Id recommend staying on until Stratford.. bit of a walk from West ham..

Just make sure you don’t try and get a train to West (or worse East) Ham and think you can walk

actually it’s not that far , but not very nice walk.
although the new West Ham stadium is probably just closer to West Ham station than thw old one

Nothing wrong with a stroll along the Greenway on a sunny day. Just not after dark ?
