Can admin (or someone) change the 'automatic log-out' or 'log out if idle' from whatever it is to about 40 minutes please, or even an hour.

I'm getting fed up of being logged out halfway through writing a post.

There must be a setting that does this - I've been logged in since the new forum went live and have never been logged out.
Don't ask me what it is though...

I reported this before also. someone suggested that its my machine causing the issue but I cleared cookies, deleted cache, etc.

Same happens on other machines also :(

Daft question alert, when you log in are you using the "remember me" checkbox before clicking to login?
Failing that is your browser set to allow cookies?

Nothing has been changed at this end, the period is still 20 minutes.

It can often be an issue with corrupt cookies (flushing/refreshing can fix that), but also not using the 'Remember Me' function will enable the 'idle logout' after 20 minutes of inactivity on the forum.

Couple of ways round that (you may not want to have the browser/forum 'remember' you if, for instance, one is using a work PC, Internet café, etc.) is to either set whatever page you leave the unattended forum on to refresh itself once every so-many-minutes (less that 20, obviously), this is do-able in most browsers. Or, alternatively, leave the Who's online page open as it refreshes every 60 seconds anyway.

If you are using a PC away from home don't forget to logout before leaving it unattended.

If I have multiple GM Forum pages open, is any one of them the master so that it monitors activity or being closed, or do they all count?

For example, when I log in to the home page I open each forum with unread messages in a new tab, then from each tab I open each unread message in another new tab. That means I could have 20 tabs each logged in to the forum open at one time. It also means that the one I get to last might be sitting there doing nothing for an hour.

I'm not having the issue of being logged out, but every now and then all the forums will get marked as read before I've actually got to them.

I hope that makes sense?

The last activity recorded will be from the last page where any activity has taken place, in this scenario the timing of the last page to be opened. However, if you're running through the tabs and going onto a second page or replying in any one of them, then that activity/page would be the last recorded by the database/cookie and the clock would restart from that activity. Scrolling a page, however, is not 'activity' as far as the db is concerned, that's just a browser window function, although if one refreshed the page that would be.

The post counters are session based, any unread posts at the end of a session are cleared.

When an activity occurs the clock starts ticking, however, when activity has been initiated and the clock does start to count, after 20 minutes the counters are reset on the assumption that 'no activity' means you have left the forum. All previous unread posts are marked read and any subsequent posts will now be marked unread for the next session.

However, using the Today's Posts (under the Quick Links dropdown menu) one can see all the posts created over the previous 24 hours, as opposed to the New Posts link which only shows unread items.
