Lockers, Pro's and Con's

It's a nope from me. My club is 14 miles away. What if someone called for a game in the other direction? As for "air drying" your bag after a game in the rain. LOL. If it's been a proper downpour a golf bag needs 24 hours indoors to dry out with the clubs removed, and everything else in it.

What if I play 99% of my games at my home course, what if I have a StaDry bag that literally needs a shake and a bit of air to dry it out.
What if, what if 🤣

My bag is waterproof but after playing in the rain the club grips are all soaked so I need to take them all out of the bag for several hours for them to dry properly. You're a fair-weather golfer though aren't you I guess? 😄

Fifty quid a year for full length at my place. Leave my practice stuff in there - balls mainly and a set of waterproofs which I would take home and dry , couple of caps, woolly hats, gloves and some old shoes.

Could give it up tomorrow, but it's a comfort thing for a low cost.

I have a full locker at one club....leave a couple of things in it. Other club a half locker....leave a couple of things in it. Not going to next year......pretty useless for me. Now, if a club were to plan ahead of time and had good ventilation holes on the front of the locker AND a small pipe built into the back of the locker to the clubs ventilation system so at least some air would "waft" through the locker.....you could put wet things in the locker and they would dry out. No way I'd put my wet/stinky/muddy bag into a locker.....something moldy would jump out and kill me a couple of days later.

I have a small locker at my club. I keep a spare pair of shoes, a couple of spare gloves, two sleeves of balls, some tees and a spare pair of waterproof trousers.

These are just in case I forget anything (30 min drive) or if I get there and need waterproofs unexpectedly. It’s handy and is only £25 a year.

I had a locker (well my dad did but I used it) when I was a junior/intermediate at my first club. Was amazing as a youngster as I could cycle the 8miles to the club, play & practice all day lock them up and cycle home. That was until the club had a break in and 40+ lockers were ransacked including mine. I was absolutely gutted those Titleist DCI 962s were my first ever set of custom fit clubs, still hurts now!!

Few years later they had a completely new clubhouse built with key fob entry etc, a dozen or so lockers then got raided by one of the members late at night, he thought he’d never get caught but forgot his key fob registered his entry and the CCTV caught him walking out with several sets of clubs!

As to my own thoughts on lockers now. If my club offered me one I’d take it in a heart beat. Wouldn’t keep clubs in it though, I’d keep a pair of shoes, alignment sticks, shag bag of practice balls, spare tees and balls, other training aids all for use in the practice ground and a pencil bag in there for those summer days where I want a super light carrying bag.

Clubs though will always come home that previous experience scared me and I wouldn’t risk it despite the security in place plus the driving range I use on crap days is the complete opposite direction and they take up no space at home.

Not for me:
1) Too expensive - equivalent to the price of 31 pints of Guinness
2) I have CPX grips and they need to be cleaned after every round or they feel horrible
3) The club is 5 miles away and I often practice away from it
4) I hate the smell of stinky shoes when I go into our locker room and wouldn't want to contribute to that

I have a full length one.
I keep my bag/clubs plus other sundry hardware in it. Plus an old pair of shoes.
Principally because I often use public transport or my bike to get to the club. Often on the way in or out of work. Really doesn't work with a bag and trolley in tow. It allows me to make the most of my membership.
Also, victorian terrace house doesn't need any more clutter in it.

I used to have one, rent was £50 a year. That was one of the larger ones that can take a bag of clubs plus other stuff. We also have smaller ones, just for shoes and bits if you want.
I gave it up because there wasn't any real benefit from it and having the gear all at home meant I had all the options if I wanted to go to a range, or mess about with the stuff.
Also, being in what is effectively a locked cupboard meant no air moved other the stuff so drying out would take much longer.
My waterproof trousers and half sleeve wind top live in the double access rear pocket of the bag all the time, so they never would stay in the locker.
