Links golf is just soooooo dull

I'm not a lover of playing links golf or watching it but i am really enjoying the open this year as it's being played on a links course as it should be, hard and fast.

For me personally i prefer watching and playing golf and a nice parkland course.

Most know my thoughts on links golf , sure if we all liked the same things in life it would become very boring very fast, some like links some dont and ya know what , neither are wrong , play whichever you like best , try others if you dare.

I don't think a fact exists that proves one is better than the other, (could be wrong) it's all opinion . Respect what each others have to say and if you want to debate the finer points do , just expect others on both sides to disagree

I've not played Links - and to be honest I've never been tempted to.
It simply doesn't appeal to me.

the list of us is growing, and this is my point I have played it and am still not tempted by it or like it.

Finally someone talking sense and that realises there is no such thing as real golf! Theres just golf and no matter what course we play we all play Golf!

Just read this - wtf. Links golf is THE test of golf. Essentially parkland woodland courses can all be played exacgly the same, links offers variety of shots and conditions.

How does links offer different conditions?

You're assuming the wind never blows on a parkland course or the greens are all as soft as sponges?

I don't remember seeing many carries over water at Manurefield or dogleg holes where they have to carry the trees to cut the corner. I don't recall the course being laced with ditches, even our rough is more brutal right now than that they are playing out of, hit it in our rough and it's GONE!

So maturely put.

See that bit, yes that bit in bold, makes you sound about 14.

Each to their own, but explain why links courses dominate any top 100 list in the uk.

Also maybe those that don't like links could say which parkland course should replace the likes of muirfield in the top 10 ?

I know nothing about golf and am not very good at it.
I think you are being somewhat disingenuous

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying watching it and really looking forward to seeing how it pans out tomorrow, but I'm far from convinced about links golf being the best test.
It does depend on what you consider 'best'. US Open and The Open seem to me to be 'better' all round tests - and pressure is one of the tests. The Masters seems to use the lightning greens as its major test.
I think that, for the average to good golfer, links golf probably provides opportunities for a greater variety of shots - to achieve the same objective - than Parkland, but that doesn't mean it's a better test. By its rather random bounces it also tends to put the golfer int a greater variety of situations than Parkland.

I can understand why people like it, but don't understand their derision for people that don't.

I also think some people are jumping on the links bandwagon just because it seems cool.

I agree with both these statements.

While I'm happy to play either style, it's the variety of different conditions that I find attractive about links golf. It's never the same course on consecutive rounds. Parkland golf can be rather boring, well samey, to play. Links golf never is.

It doesn't matter if 99/100 courses in the list are links, it doesn't mean people have to like Links because more people choose to put them in a list! Personal preference is just that personal, personally I don't care about playing courses listed in the top 100 as lists like that are irrelevant to me and don't sway my influence.

I'd rather play somewhere like China Fleet, Nizels, Woburn, Wentworth, Moor Allerton or the Belfry than anywhere like St Andrews, Murfield, Hoylake, RSG et al, simply because its my preference and that way I'd be keeping out the way of the real golfers on the top 100 courses plus I'm more likely to be able to afford to play them (Wentworth excluded)

I was with you until you put Nizels and the belfry on the list. They'd both be better served as farmland!!:o:D

Waste of good pasture!! Ooohh aaaarr!!

You really don't have a clue, do you?
A 6 handicapper who offers 'expert' advice.
And who Trolls at every available opportunity.

Lol. Jeez, you've even got me hot under the collar with your nonsense!

That is your opinion though! I've played Nizels on a lovely summers day and it was a cracking course, not played it in the wet but can imagine it gets boggy but hey ho. As for Belfry I'd like to play it a lot more than any links course even if it isn't rated as high!
