WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never on order as I wanted to change the whole bag and hadn't/haven't been back for a fitting with the pro. As for the idea of vanity irons, WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think you can describe the TM Tour Preferred iron as a vanity iron with its cavity back, certainly compared to their MC or MB irons released a couple of years ago.

I play to a decent (ish) standard and the plan is to get a full set that will last for a good few years and IF I get down to single figures want them to be versatile enough to keep me there. I am not 100% convinced the G25 are that club and to be honest while I hit the demo 7 iron superbly, the 8, 9, and PW really don't suit my eye. I said in the OP you can't argue with the stats and agree with some of the comments BUT if I am over a ball with a short iron to a tight pin, and I look down and think, "I really don't like the look of this club" I am never really going to play anything with total confidence. I defy anyone to be totally honest and objective to say they could stand there with a club they really don't like the look of and play with freedom and belief
 
@mbedboro: @TheGolfChick Can't argue with the trackman numbers. Thought I had another 10 years before considering Ping. Not got them yet. On order

As part of a complete order with the woods which hadn't been fitted. Didn't realise it made that much difference to you. Thanks for your concern though :thup:;)
 
Homer, I have only heard good things about i20's, surely they would suit your eye and game better than the G series. Alternatively get in touch with Orka and go for a look, you might like what you see.

I did try them but the distance I was getting was only on a par with my current clubs and dispersion a bit erratic. To be honest I think I could have looked at more shaft options but I was initially looking at Callaway only and it then got sucked into hitting the G25 with a few shat tweaks. I will have another look if the fitting session I'm having tomorrow for my birthday, totally rules out the Callaway as being of any benefit
 
Martin, If you don't like the look of your irons, then they'll have a short lifespan in the bag. I picked my irons based 50% on looks and 50% on performance. That may not be to everyones taste, but hey ho, it's my choice.

'Homergate 3 (or more?)' was my initial thought! :rolleyes:

So many other things (shoes, outfits, blogs, single brand bags, aillions of posts about 'nearly there' etc) indicate 'vanity' to me.

I've certainly played blades pretty successfully, but always really knew they were costing me a shot or 2, especially in Winter so had no qualms changing to CBs when that was important.

My mate off about 8 (+/- 1) played G10s and I tried them quite a few times. Huge shovels and I wouldn't be happy using the SW - which he hit 120! However, a little familiarity and I could easily see my attitude changing from 'what a pig ugly club - I can't hit this' to 'there is no way I can't hit this perfectly'! And the G25s are less PU than the 10s.

If pushed, I'd put my money on Ping winning the iron shootout, but the bag ending up as Callaway with the excuse being that the other Callaway clubs were better - and I doubt if they are! Several words would be appropriate here, but I'll just laugh instead.

Happy hunting Homer. Just be honest with yourself. After all, that's one of the things Golf teaches - but many don't learn!
 
I have a new set of i20's and they are great clubs to look at and hit. My club pro uses them, his son who plays the Euro Tour uses them.

Give them a serious trial.
 
Definitely nice to have snazzy looking clubs, in fact I encourage all to buy them and keep smiling as younlooknat them all the way round while someone with "ugly" clubs comes in with an outrageous bandit score over and over again.

I used to be an aesthete, and I also believed myself when I said I could play just as well with my blades.
Took less than a month with the "ugly" g20s to start thinking of them as a thing of beauty when my handicap had dropped 2 shots.
Took me 2rounds to get used to the "clunky" wedges and now I wouldn't swap them back for the various shiny wedges now sitting in the garage. The wedges in their own right are worth every penny.

I've hardly played in the last 8 months with work and family
Week or so ago I shot gross level par - if I recall the shots there was nothing brilliant in there, a lot of mis-hits if I count them up. Chipped in twice with those clunky wedges. But the number of mis-hits that were still on the green is what these clubs do.
Plus they give me an extra club distance.

So, my story is that what produces the goods look more and more beautiful as time goes on :)
Each to their own however :)

I tend to agree about the G25 irons, I really do not think they look appealing at all. I've never hit them and I may well be able to hit them 25 yards further than my current set and with less dispersion but the very fact that I can't stand the look of them means I'll never try them and I'll never find out if they are any good.

I think before trying a club out you should be pretty happy that you like the way it looks. (Personally, I'm not keen on Titleist irons looks either).

Stick to your guns Homer, i got sucked into the 'stats' on the day and jumped into the G25's although i didn't like the looks, never really took to them and moved them on quickly, that reminds me i'll need to update the clubs on my sig.
