Let whap em out and measure...Titleist 910 style!!

Was this with the stock project x shaft - the 7C3 ? If so did you not find it a bit soft considering how far you hit it, or did it have an upgraded ie stiffer PX shaft?

yes this was the shaft. I didnt have a choice of anything stiffer i believe and tbf i was with a mate not paying. Im sure i cud go slightly stiffer but i dnt know if that wud be an uncharged shaft because if i wanted to hit one i cud feel it go off in my hands. The tour stiff shaft in the Ping felt quite soft


306 is immense :)

Thats long i mean the pga tour average for 2010 was 287 and to hit it 306 would mean being about 6th in the distance rankings.

Hitting that far would mean chipping back at a few holes i would think ;)

sometimes haha, mainly sideways chips from trees. Ive got myself a nice hybrid to hit wen ive got a score going haha
 
yep any stiffer in the PX is a custom shaft option, upcharge and currently almost impossible to find to try it seems, hopefully get to cambs to try one end of jan
 
i wud be interested to see wat effects a stiffer shaft wud have on the flight etc but i think i wud be stupid for a number of reasons:

the cost
the fact i wud be have to swing hard all the time where as in a course/comp enviornment 80% is ample which shud take me back to the project shaft
 
Havent been able to get on with a normal stiff shaft in the driver for years, much prefer to get the right shaft custom fit, ensures better trajectory and lower spin. Tbh would be tempted to try and get the same Fukijura I have now put in the Titleist though will get a fit done at some point to see if anything better out there now.

I see you meantion ballooning some drivers in the past, def worth exploring the extra stiff shaft options, probably with a higher kickpoint

yup, i cnt hit certain driver types, especially previous titleist modles they just balloon horribly to the point where i cud hit my 3 wood further and more consistant.

I see your point and the advantages of transplanting a shaft if u trust it! gud thinking that
 
Like yourself I give it a fair lick and a few years ago our local pro took the time to explain the shaft effect to me and then demonstrate it with me hitting probably 20 different shafts in drivers on the practise ground.

Truly amazing the difference between what until then I had assumed were all but the same shaft, the trajectory especially. Will never buy another without a rigorous custom fit to ensure spin and trajectory are right, and if it means a few extra quid for an upgrade so be it
 
Also, there has been a few reports Ive read with regards to the 910 that Titleist have gone towards a Driver fit for all rather than "for the better player" as previous models have been and that a lot that have used previous titleist drivers are finding a lot of the shafts feel very soft in the 910, partly I believe due to the hosel and how the shaft is fitted.
 
Why doesn't anyone come on here bragging that they haven't missed a fairway for weeks with the driver, its always distance :( I just want to hit it straight cos am fed up just booming it 340 yards OOB ;)

I have not missed a fairway in weeks..... have not hit one either though :(

i think this is my downfall, i have very little knowledge of shafts and what wud benefit me more. Should really invest the time to find out
 
the above post's mention "distance doesn't matter" HOW WRONG.

women get to straighten hair and paint nail's to feel like a woman. men need to drive cars fast, lift heavy weights and yes,,,,,wack a golf ball 350yrds. who cares if it doesn't go straight. there's not a better feeling that seeing that ball disapearing into the distance. its just a small bonus if i can find the ball after :D

I play at Blairgowrie which is well known for it's tight tree lined fairways with very little room for error especially off the tee. That is the reason why I needed to hit the ball sraighter and this is what I have found with the 910D2. Whilst it hasn't cured the occasional slice it does make the ball go straighter than my Callaway Big Bertha 460 that it has replaced and there is also an increase in distance.

'cos certain peeps constantly take the p out of us oldies. :p :p

Played yesterday for the 1st time in almost a month and hit 11 out of 14 fairways. The 3 I missed were possibly because I don't hit the ball far enough to reach the short stuff :o

It makes hitting GIR very difficult :(

Still, on the bright side, even though we were on 18 temps so were down to about 5,600 yds, I managed one under SSS nett. Only 28 putts (all regulation sized and all holed) certainly helped.

According to SS2 I only hit 38% of fairways in 2010. If you can't find the short stuff you can't hit greens and definitely can't score. I've never been a consistent driver of a golf ball though even in my younger days with persimmon and balata.

My course isn't tree lined yet (let them young trees planted when we opened in 2005 grow for another 10 years!) but it is still pretty penal on most holes if you spray it about and the emphasis is definitely on hitting fairways.
