After a while of crap ball striking i took the plunge and booked 5 lessons after getting 2 i'm hitting my irons a lot more consistent with a nice draw and gained a few more yards.

But the problem is my driver swing feels totally different and have started hitting a lot of snap hooks, real bad ones,i've tried to mirror the iron swing with plenty width on the back swing to create a better arc ,has anyone elese stuggled with there driver after some lessons.

The other reason for the lessons is i'm hacked of playing of 10 and want to knock a couple of shots of it which my pro reckons i could do easily if i keep working on my game, but not if losing balls in the gorse with every tee shot.
In reality i've won one part with my irons but lost another with my driver,no wonder i take a drink this game is so frustrating

The downside of lessons is they take a lot of work and time to pay off. Stick with it and I'm sure they will pay off in time.

Recently persuaded a couple of mates to have lessons with my PGA Pro and ther games are really starting to come together now and their scores are dropping.

I've been through this last year. Was off about 18 a year ago and got fed up having been on that for about 18 months so block booked four half hours. after the first lesson my iron play was 30% better straight away, higher flight, nice little draw and a touch further. More importantly no big slice and more consistency.

But, my driving went a bit down hill, after the second session my irons and wedge play was a lot better. USed the third lesson to work on driving and he sorted that out too. occaisionally i get that hook but i know its a tempo problem related to the transition and i rush/snatch atthe ball.

Bed your iron work in and use another lesson on the 3 wood and driver, the pro will hopefully get a similar improvement in as your irons. Those lessons are the best £55 i've spent golfwise

Thanks for the vote of confidence mate, :D :D

I've just started playing this great game and can testify to the manifold frustrations that trying to hit the ball consistently well every shot brings!

I've had three 30min lessons with a PGA pro and they have been invaluable, well worth the £15 for each lesson. I will continue them and aim to have a couple of driving range sessions inbetween each lesson.

The best thing the lessons actually taught me was to identify what went wrong after I've played a bad shot and thus know how to correct it.

Perhaps one day I won't need that skill!!

:-)

Im out early doors too so I might put a few quid on myself being first :o

Meant to say I plan to get some lessons this summer when I have time to practise to help me drop from 18 to 14 this year....thats the plan anyway.

Should've taken the lessons back in October/November to allow time to groove in the changes over the winter.

Getting lessons just before the new season, especially if changes are needed might make for frustrating golf.

Rome wasn't built in a day and good luck with whatever is being recommended.

Took me a season to get used to changes I had to make.

Cheers Birdieman but for me i didnt really think about it till a few weeks ago, due to work i think my first comp is about 4 weeks away so a bit of time yet,i'm not expecting mircales to happen overnight ,but even after 2 lessons and some practise i've noticed my ball striking to be better.

I've just got to be patient and not rush, my handicap might go up but hopefully the hardwork will pay off and i get down to 7 or 8 ,thats the plan anyway
