Went to the range last night with NO intention of recording my swing but after I warmed up and took the big dog out, I was hitting everything Perfect (almost) and was quite impressed with my own results. According to the range markers I was carrying roughly 240 and with roll aswell my drives were rougly 250/260.

I very rarely drive this far out on the course and the range balls are MEANT to cut about 10% off the distance apparently.

So I decided I would set the phone up and see what was going on with the mechanics.

The first thing I noticed was my take away is so flat compared to only a few months ago when my driving was poor. If you'd of asked me then which swing I prefered it would of definitly been my old one, BUT now that the take away is flatter, I seem to be driving consistently more accurate.
Anyone have any theories on this?

And why can't I drive this far on the course? I must admit, I tend to give my range drives a good bashing once I get going and I know I am down the middle. If i was honest, I probably hold back on the course for fear of turning my natural fade into a katie Price.

Anyway Here is the Vid, over to you guys.

Hey....well done Tony....good to see the swing in slo-mo.

I've seen you play and have already commented on the excellent attention to set up and balanced posture you keep (although it's not so clear on the vid, as we don't see all of you!).

Three things come to mind.

1) Like me, your hands move ever so slightly away from your body as you start the swing and then the club is a little too "inside" at 9 o'clock. Try to keep a gentle pressure of the arms against the chest and practice moving away from the ball (take-away, for those, like me that don't mind this expression) so that your hands move directly down the line not out and then back. Small thing.....lots of folk do it, and it doesn't stop you swinging it pretty well, all that can happen is that the arms and body get a little too separated.....think Leadbetter theory!

2) If you start back straighter and then set the club more upright it'll help get your arms higher at the top....maybe I can bring my visual "gadget" to a range session to give a clear idea. The flatter the more chance of over-swing and getting way across the line at the top. You need Madandra's classy 7/8 length!

3) on the way down, you get it great straight away....drop down, butt end at the ball etc. It would be interesting to video you side-on and have a look at impact. Just watch how you finish......I'd be tempted to get into the classic club wrapped around the neck and HOLD it.....your idiosyncracy is a sign that you are fighting "something" to hit it straight....what, I don't know!!

You should take great encouragement though.....the distance will come. Like my pro said.....even if a better swing doesn't help increase your club-head speed, hitting the ball more solidly will give you bags of yards on your drive. You hit some beauties when we played....keep working on your in-out and if you end up straighter (not fade-ing) or drawing.....you'll be up to 270-280 with almost no hard work.

I think this comes from me trying to start out so the club comes back on an inward plane, I will try work on this.

maybe we could do this at Padeswood range if we play there again.

I thought about this at the end of the range session and I started to hold my posture, Making a meal of following through and holding seemed to buy me extra yards too.

This would be great!

I do have another video from last night but again you dont see all of me during it. The post was to near, the bin too low!
