One for the computer whizzers. I want to erase a laptop hdd that had windows 7 on it so that IO can re-install it with windows 7 (32 bit), so that I can play a game on it. Lord in heaven is this difficult!!! I'm usually pretty good and can find a way of sorting more computer stuff out but this has got me stumped. Can anyone help?

No data needed it's an old laptop. I have a copy of the install required. But it won't down grade. Why would it? Who would down grade?

Helloooooooooo again.

So I've got a HP laptop (running windows 10) that has three usb ports. Two on one side that don't work and one on the right which does. I've updated everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. I've tried all the know fixes (googled the hell out of it and done 'em all). NOTHING works.

Any ideas? Not the googly stuff, ones that you might just know about.

Have you tried using the built-in HP performance software or the online HP hub? It should recognise your device and perform diagnostics to troubleshoot any issues.
I’m not a computer guy but I’ve found the Asus equivalent works for mine every time Microsoft forces an update that screws up bits of hardware.

If you can't get the ports working, just get a USB hub thing from amazon. I have one which I can plug 4 devices into it, no software to download or anything, just plug and play.

Best advice.. Just get a port replicator/hub off amazon... you will be fine. the ports on the LHS may have a hardware failure, do they show up in ur device manager?

Sorry, it’s difficult to understand from your messages what is not working. My guess is that you boot into the current Windows, then plug in a USB drive containing installation version of the Windows that you like to have and then try to install it from there? And Windows complains that you already have a higher version?

Fundamentally, you need to boot from something else, not your current partition. In the simplest form, you boot from the USB that has the installer, run the installer, choose custom install, delete previous partitions etc.

To boot from the USB you need to press a button on startup, F9 on HP(?).

Hope it helps.

That looks like an unpowered hub. It's better to get a powered hub so you can plug in multiple devices that need more than trivial amounts of power (eg. external disks).

I suspect this is a different issue to his previous question about downgrading to Win7 (which he asked about in 2021).

It is an unpowered hub, all we are allowed on our work laptops. Only connects my mouse and keyboard so don’t need more.

No worries everyone. It was an e bay purchase. I've tried everything. Apparently a downgrade to win 7 wouldn't work. I've returned it for a full refund.....and bought a Callaway Rouge instead. Hope this works. LOL
