Laptop Help

One for the computer whizzers. I want to erase a laptop hdd that had windows 7 on it so that IO can re-install it with windows 7 (32 bit), so that I can play a game on it. Lord in heaven is this difficult!!! I'm usually pretty good and can find a way of sorting more computer stuff out but this has got me stumped. Can anyone help?

Do you have the reinstall media on a cd or usb stick
Have you backed up any data you need?

No data needed it's an old laptop. I have a copy of the install required. But it won't down grade. Why would it? Who would down grade?

I think I need to wipe the disk and reinstall, but Windows won't allow this.

What do you mean when you say "windows won't allow this"?

From what point are you trying to perform the format?
