Three days ago I bought a Lenovo 530s laptop which I want to connect to a tv and monitor showing different views
I connect the tv ok with HDMI cable and now want to connect the USB C to VGA on the monitor to show a different picture.
All the you tube videos say buy a usb c-VGA adaptor and it works automatically.
So I did, and it doesn't
It seems I can't output any video through the USB C.
Is that right or have I missed something ?
Thanks for any help

Without knowing the model or spec, I assume it has the graphics capabilities for 2 outputs? If so i f you go into display settings you should be able to configure the separate screens you want then connect

From that spec it says it has a NVIDIA® GeForce® MX150 graphics card

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-mx150.c2959

This review says it has no display connectivity as its not designed to have monitors connected to it

Im no expert on this (especially laptops) but if that is correct you wont be able to do what you want I dont think Bob. Might be worth sending Fragger a message and getting him to have a look as he'll be able to work out for sure

The problem is I need 2 outputs and the new laptop only has one.
Yes, I could split the single output and have screen 2 and 3 showing the same thing but I would like, say screen 3 (tv) showing youtube video while screen 2 (monitor) showing the desktop.....unless that hub can do that?

you can choose to extend or duplicate on the monitors..
1) Set both screens to extend..
2) On the 3rd screen put your youtube app/browser and play that.
3) the remainning screens can function as 'work' screens

And that would work out of one HDMI output from the laptop?

if you use a splitter or a multiple display adaptor or a docking station. In the office, I have 2 screens which is connected via an IBM thinkpad docking station. i have never used a splitter but i assume it can do it. too
