Chatsworth is a good shout. Lovely gardens, great farm shop.
The zoo will make you smile more but it might make more sense for the journey.

Looks like it is going to bucket down.. which can be a downer for the animals… so looks like Chatsworth it may be.
So 2.5 hrs to Chatsworth and then push towards Leicester for the night .. curry on the menu then

Finally Windermere../ and the Mrs and MIL have been in … Lakeland flagship store all morning. I m pretty sure it costs the same as the one in Guildford, but they seem to be lost there. What is the attraction for middle aged women to Lakeland. Is it the Ikea of the North
Btw, is there a cultural connection between the Lake District and Poland of any sorts? A lot of Polish folks around (or atleast sounding east European students)

(if you buy anything make sure it’s the electric clothes airer!)Can’t answer the Polish question but had similar but different last week when we visited Tintagel, there must have been 100 young Indians visiting, no old folk or children, just young adults, taking photos, on the beach, in the cafes and bars… I felt like apologising as the weather was miserable and Tintagel is an absolute tourist rip off.

Yes, that's a good choice. I like the pubs in Keswick and there's so many great walks close by. Like you say it can get busy though.

Had to finish early as MIL was not taking to walking around Lake District. So drove back. Skipped Chatsworth House as it would mean more walking.
Lad had recently been on a Physics tour to Bristol from Brunel things, so decided to show him Ironbridge. I used to work in that area decades ago, so it was good to get down there. As an engineer, the bridge fascinates me, but a bit of a glaze for him. So did Grasmere - Ironbridge - South Birmingham for charging - Home.
Was a good digital detox from work related stuff..
