Cannot comment on the dog friendly aspect, sorry.

Are you after the ’lively’ Bowness being extremely busy at weekends and usually during midweek with plenty of foreign tourists or Keswick.

Alternatively the West Coast is far quieter round Ravenglass but not as many restaurants/ pubs. Kendal is a lively town relative to Lake District standards And Lake Ullswater @Pooley Bridge has some decent Hotels Or just to The W. of Keswick towards Lake Borrowdale

Have stayed at the Coledale Inn a few times. Very nice, and extremely dog friendly - most couples/families seemed to have one underneath the table at the restaurant most nights. Few minutes outside Keswick, and at the foot of Whinlatter Forest if you need any outdoor pursuit excitement.

If you don’t mind a short drive to the larger towns and villages, The Windmill Inn at Ings is dog friendly, has a great range of beers and the best Lakeland cooked breakfast I’ve ever eaten.

If it’s a slightly livelier base you’re after, Ambleside is hard to beat. Plenty of options, so there’s sure to be some dog friendly.

Pretty much everywhere in the lakes is dog friendly so don't worry too much on that front. Anywhere not would be the exception.

Didn’t do any Italian restaurants last time I was up there, but there are certainly several to choose from.

Well Hole in t’ Wall allows pets according to Trip Advisor. There is live music there on a Friday Night as a guy from our Golf Club plays there.

The Porto is a decent restaurant. Not as good as what it was around 10 years’ ago as it has changed owners. Many restaurants do not take bookings in Bowness. This is mainly because of no shows and they know they will be full with walk ins. Jackson’s Bistro is OK and there are some class restaurants in Ambleside, notably The Stamp House and Samlings on the way but pricey

Drunken Duck Inn always had good food. Dog friendly in the bar as well.

We’ve stayed at The Swan Inn a few times, it’s an old coaching inn located at Newby Bridge.
Walk up the bank and get the Haverthwaite Steam Train 2 stops to Lakeside on Windermere.
It’s a delightful place that is dog friendly with a good menu.
Jump in the car and Ulverston is just up the road, a lovely small town with plenty pubs and restaurants.
