Hi guys need some serious advice, I had my heart set on MP 53s but when I got to the mizzi fitting centre the pro done the routine custom fit checks and it turned out that I was getting a extra 10 yards and hitting it lower with the JPX 800 Pro......the question is WOULD I BE MAKING A GRAVE MISTAKE IF I STILL WENT WITH THE
MP53s????

Nobody knows but yourself. Did they FEEL better. Confidence plays a big part in your game. I use the 800 pros, despite preferring bladed irons. My scores this year have been better than I could have expected. The only thing keeping my handicap high is the fact that I just can't get out and play in any qualifiers or group games due to work commitments. Try them both again and make a decision then....

Go for the irons that suit your game NOW, not irons that are where you want to be.

If you hit 6 out of 10 well with the MP53's and 9 out of 10 well with the JPX800 Pro's, it's surely a no-brainer?

As long as you don't object to the look or feel of the latter, then I'd go for them.

You wouldn't be making a grave mistake but you may be giving up some extra distance and forgiveness. The JPX Pros are a good enough set for a very low handicapper of pro to play - Charles Howell used them on the PGA Tour for a while.

Were you fitted for different shafts in the two models?

Just got back from the range and I tried both again and in all honesty there was no difference in distance with both but i did feel that i had to work the 53s a bit more.If it came to the 4 or 5 iron then the 800s will be easier to hit..........I think the 800 pros are probably the better club. My real reason for the 53s is they have the mirror finish (i know I am childish lol).

its not childish. I still look longingly at some of the shiny blades, but the 800 pros help on those "tired and emotional" mornings after a late night beforehand. They are fantastic clubs.....

Mirror finishes actually put me off the MP53's and AP2's - too shiny!!

Get what's best for you. The set you feel happiest with. Confidence is a huge deal in Golf.

I had similar results from my fitting and it was almost the flip of a coin.

but I went for the 53's based on looks and I dont regret it - love em.

Psychology has been mentioned in a few threads that I've noticed lately, so obviously on my mind as I read this.

Interesting to note (not just in this thread either) that people don't associate confidence with the club that produced the best result.
In fact the correlation seems to be that confidence is strongly correlated to how much someone wants a club, irrespective of performance.

Interesting, never thought about it like that before.
I've always liked blades and used them for about 14 years. They might not have produced the best results on the fittings but if I ever needed to work the ball from side to side or keep it low I feel so much more confident with the blades I was after without even trying those shots with other heads.

Confidence can be fragile, referring to higher handicappers like myself, have 3 or 4 nightmares on the course/range and that nice relaxed smooth swing is nowhere to be seen and you start thinking of beheading your wife with that good-for-nothing 4 iron

On the point of which irons, I used to have the Mizuno MX 200s (not fitted), went for a fitting and was open to either the JPX 800, JPX 800 Pro or the MP53s, but I thought the MP53s would be to 'good' for me because I am a high handicapper. However I hit the MP53s slightly better than the JPX 800 pros, but there wasnt much in it and I went with the MP53s. My point here, and its an unexperienced opinion, there isnt much in it between those 2 irons and I doubt you would go wrong with either

Either way, be sure, dont look at them in 3 months time and think to yourself I should have got the....

Good luck

Go for what you want, I got fitted by Mizzy and got the irons I wanted, the ball flight, the shaft etc etc.

In the end I got the same set up with Titleist because Mizzy were too expensive.

I like the 800Pro and my father plays well with them, but I hate the way they look at address.

If you stand over the ball and don't like the look of the club, thats a big part of the battle.

If you are not happy with a club then I doubt you will be confident with it. Having just gone from Ping to a forged club I can safely say I enjoy using the new clubs more. The pings were good and the results great but never really had the love for them. You are much more likely to want to use your preffered clubs and so may practice more to get the best out of them.
Surefire - you a trick cyclist?

I tried both & found not much difference the day my swing was working, the next time the swing was a bit off & I found the JPX Pros more consistent, if possible try & have a go on a bad day & you'll probably see quite a difference.
