Jon Rahm

Paul Lawrie tipped Jon Rahm for the Masters, this was on Sunday morning. But they continued on to say that it's impossible for a left to right shot to win at the Masters, but I'm sure Willet had a natural fade on his shots.

I didn't want to heckle. :D

with that logic - masters favourite - dustin johnson can't win it either then as his natural shot shape is left to right aswell :D

Even a broken clock is right twice a day

My course is dry, windy and slopey, which helps ;)

What's your clubhead speed with a driver? Do you know it?

Most average club golfers average around 93mph club-head speed, which when optimised with strike and attack angle results in a drive of around 250, so you must be swinging it fast and well and have an incredibly dry, windy and slopey golf course to ever be hitting it 400 yards.

Are we talking in closed conditions, no wind/slope?

On my course my playing partners and me regularly go over 300 yards with a bit of slope and wind. Can even go 400+ on the 18th if wind is behind.
Are you Jay off the Inbetweeners?

Pretty sure DJ's natural shot is a draw?

I remember reading he trained hard couple of years back to start hitting a fade consistently.

To be fair the guy can hit whatever shot he wants, on demand it would seem!

I said on the course there are very long drives.

Conditions play a big part in that. Just had a check of game golf and lots of 300+ drives from players at my course, and no we are not all DJ or Rory, just course conditions. Wind/Slope/Rock hard ground.

Lot of wise guys in here as always

In my 2nd summer I squeezed out 372 in those conditions. I hit at least 2 300+ drives that week.

After that it was back to the normal 250 good uns

Where the hell are you playing to have that much wind, slope and rock hard ground in winter?!

Everyone believes they can hit it 300+, and it always seems to be those of a higher handicap...so you can understand the snorts of laughter when someone says they 'regularly' go over 300 yards. You still need a higher than average swing speed, as well as being able to centre most strikes. If that is the case, to be playing off 19, your short game and putting must be as ropey as hell

I've been playing golf for 4 years now and I've never hit a 300 yard drive ever no matter the conditions....I'm a relatively short hitter mind.

Also I think I've played with one person ever who I'd say hits it near 300 yards on the regular....and I think he plays off 1 or 2.

Anyone who has played East Brighton will know how far you can hit the ball on some holes. The 5th, 12th and 18th.

No idea why everyone is so sceptical about anyone claiming to hit the ball 300 yards on here. Do I average 300 yards? No, because I am not consistent enough, don't always hit the middle and plenty go left and right into the filth. Can I hit a drive 300 yards plus without wind and/or slope? Yes and have done plenty of times, which considering I'm 6'2", 16 stone and using the same equipment as the pro's, why wouldn't I be able to swing a club as fast as your average pro?

No bragging at all either...I'd rather hit every drive 260 straight down the middle and the game would be much easier if I could do that.

What's your gamegolf name? Want to have a look at this!

I'd say I hit the ball further than most I play with and my best on game golf is 292 and that was downwind. My average is only 232 this winter.

I don't think there is any wise guys in here. I just don't think people appreciate how far 300 yards is, the average on tour is only about 280 and last season there was only 12 people over 300 yards average. So for some amateur who has been playing for 2 years to come and say he regularly hits it over 300 yards is hard to believe. Unless your course is on a mountain with concrete fairways?

Your height may have some bearing, longer arms may give a longer swing. But your weight isn't hitting the ball. Its the driver head mass that counts. Not sure too many were questioning the 30 yards drives. But the claims of 400 raised plenty of eyebrows.

Anyway.....back to mr Rahm! Quality player who I'm sure we will be seeing a lot of in the not to distant future.

To be fair, i have played east brighton, and yes, 350 is way within reach of average hitters. Get over the crest on some holes, and the distance achievable is mental.

read an interview with beef in another publication and he was mentioning in that article that the likes of dj and jb holmes - two of the games biggest hitters - both have natural fade's :mmm:

DJ has only just developed that fade in the last couple of years, they were discussing it on Sky Sunday evening.

As for East Brighton, yes it's extremely slopey on some holes so a ball that would normally go about 230 could go any distance downwind in the summer as it rolls and rolls endlessly down the hill. That's just unusual conditions though, most professional golfers don't hit 300 yards in soft conditions.
