Joining a new club...

I'm going to be joining a new club (west lothian) when the new seasons subs are due. I notice on the application form, they ask for your handicap from your previous club...

do they just carry that handicap on or is it still the norm to put 3 cards in just like when i joined my current club.

i'd prefer to put 3 cards in.

Yep you just start from your last playing handicap.

You'll develop one leg longer than the other. Nice course, but hilly!

I'm sure you carry it forward unless it has lapsed for some reason at your current place in which case you may need to put three new cards in

I'm a member of West Lothian Golf Club. When I joined 3 years ago, because I didn't know 2 people to propose me they accepted a letter from my old club which stated my handicap which West Lothian honoured and let me start using straight away.

Yep it carries forward with you, unless as Homer say you have missed a few years.
Why are you joining a new club?

To tell the truth, i think i'd prefer to submit 3 new cards as i am currently playing 6 or 7 shots better than my handicap (after a wee hiccup a few days ago). I wouldn't want to join a new club and instantly be branded a bandit. Maybe i should make this clear in a letter.
