What is it with Johnnie Miller and his dislike of Luke being no.1? He just said Luke might be number 1 but has only won 3 times in the U.S and that he needs to win more on American soil.

Why Mr Miller? Why does he need to win more in America. It's called the frigging World Number One, not the American Number One

Donald is currently in with a very good just of winning both the European Tour and PGA Tour money lists in the same year which would be a phenomenal achievement but even if he doesn't, the fact that he has a chance makes him a worthy no.1 that justifies the World status.

Yeah heard that as well. I can't stand these arrogant yank commentators who can't see past their own patriotic stupidity and ignorance. So what if Donald has only won '3' times on the US tour, he has won 6 times on the European tour which has arguably a tougher field of opposition, and the courses aren't picture/weather perfect target golf courses like some of the US mickey mouse ones.
It was a ridculous and disrespectful comment towards a deserved number 1 player and it just makes me laugh how much they are arse licking the likes of Chez Reavie, Brendt Snedeker and Webb Simpson. Who?

I heard that comment about Luke "only" winning 3 times on the US tour which I thought was a bit odd but he also made a similar comment about one of the US players who had 2 wins I think. His point was that these guys weren't used to winning but it was a poorly made point and would only really have been relevant had they had no wins. I'd have thought if someone has 3 wins plus closing out a tight finish at the PGA at Wentworth, then they have showed they can win. It did sound a bit like a deliberate effort to talk down Luke's chances and ability.

Just had a look at Miller's record on Wikipedia. He had 25 PGA Tour wins, including 8 in 1974. He also won in Europe and Asia, so 3 wins may not sound like a lot to him. But when he won the US Open in 1973 it was only his 3rd win on tour!

I agree. Given his ability 2 majors is a poor return. One he shot 63 in the last round to come from behind, so no pressure. The other win was, even at the time and more so in retrospect, overshadowed by the performance of a certain teenaged Spaniard called Severiano Ballesteros. He had a few other top 10's but clearly didn't finish the job as often as he should have done. Could be he looks back and feels he ought to have done better.

Must admit I really liked Miller as a player. Between 1973 and 76 he was probably the best player in the world. Amazing number of wins in that period, and when he won, he won by a distance.

His 63 to win the US Open is regarded as one of the great rounds to win a major. He was the best iron player I have seen, and could stop the ball on the hardest greens.

As a commentator at least he expresses a view, and is not just bland like nearly all the other US ones. Personally think he has a point about Donald, bearing in mind he plays full time in the US, 3 wins in 10 odd years is not much. Nothing personal against Donald, but take away Tiger and Leftie, there are no many multiple year on year winners in the States.
