Always a nice time of the year
REO Speedwagon should sue whoever butchered the song.
It's done its job if it gets people to go to the stores and spend money.Adverts can sell a specific product or they can put a brand into your subconscious. John Lewis is a dept store, what product should they showcase? They go for the latter.
These adverts are now an event, it is all over social media, regular media. It puts the JL name out there at the most critical time of the year for retail. As Bazzatron has stated, it absolutely does its job.
Surely you put it on here to be discussed?Blimey - what a miserable bunch some people are , it’s just a feel good advert with a bit of warmth at this time of year
Not everything has to be dissected down to the 9th degree 🤦â€â™‚ï¸
You could well be right there. They seem to be the last of the UK wide dept stores to be still doing okay but maybe without the adverts they would be where Debenhams are already? It is hard to know whether adverts of this type work or not but ultimately I don't think they would do these mega productions if they did not believe it brought benefits. It's done its job if it gets people to go to the stores and spend money.
Arguably, seeing as JlP posted their first ever loss earlier this year, it ain't working as well as they'd like.
Once the Xmas sales figures are in and the cash counter then we'll know if it "worked" or not.
Personally, I feel the days of these huge , multi-department stores are numbered.
