Hi guys

new to the forum so be gentle with me!

in the process of being convinced by the pro at my club that it's time to replace my Nike Machspeed driver. He's said that the new Jetspeed is ideal for my swing.

Without wishing to do the whole "TM brings out a new driver every five minutes" thing, has anyone tried the Jetspeed yet and am I likely to find it any better than the RBZ for instance?

Please ignore shaft issues, I'll probably get my existing Project X refitted.

thanks

sounds like your pro is trying to hit target for the end of month to me... especially if you would be keeping your shaft, as i doubt he can sell you one head only.. smells a bit to me... try one and if its better then consider it, but beware..

And they say support your local pro

There are loads of good drivers out there so if you are thinking about a change, don't limit yourself to just TM stuff. What other brands does your pro stock?

Your pro should have a hearty stock of demo clubs. I'd hit RBZ, RBZ Stage 2, R1 and then Jetspeed before deciding to then stick with your existing driver.

Oh and if anyone else's pro can have a look at my swing and tell me the perfect driver for me, please let me know his/her name.

Mr Traq Mann is a bit too busy.

G25 is a forgiving club. I love the look of Callaway and Titleist drivers. Don't discount Cleveland either. Basically, I'd be shopping around and trying as many as I could rather than being tied to TM

Try as many makes as possible before committing to one make but also go with your own preference

Has your pro done anything other than just look at your swing? If not, I'd ignore him. If you think you need a new driver, try as many as you can, if you don't, tell the pro he'll have to hit his sales targets somewhere else.

this^ , the pro needs to seel 2 more to get a free 1 and he reckons youre 1 of them , dont be so gullable

welcome along mate. I spent some time hitting the Jetspeed on Friday night and it was at best average.... it was shorter than my covert and in the setup I had (set to draw) I still found it to be a "slicey" club....but maybe it was just the shaft. Would I spend £199 on it? Not in a million years.

Thanks for the input so far everyone.

In the pro's defence, he knows my game pretty well and has been coaching me off and on for 2 years. He's also had me in front of flightscope, so he's working off the numbers presented. I trust him not to just be trying to sell me stock to boost his figures - he's always been very honest in the past - he actually convinced me not to buy a new set of irons last year, for instance.

The difficulty was that he hadn't yet got any stock in when I was talking to him early last week. Probably has by now, but I doubt I'll get chance to go in this side of Christmas.

So, I suppose the real question is does the Jetspeed (or the SLDR for that matter) offer me anything I'm not going to get out of an RBZ (1 or 2), an R1 or anything else for that matter.

Proof is in the pudding, you've gotta line them all up and hit them and see what's best.

In short yes, whether that makes it worth the extra cash only you can decide.

Both the JetSpeed (game-improver) and SLDR (better-player) have a totally different head set-up to their predecessors, with a forward CG position dramatically reducing spin at impact, so yes they are different.

For 75% of golfers this difference does wonders, but for the few who launch it naturally low, it can make it difficult to get the ball airborne, so my advice would be to try both and compare the numbers on your pro's flightscope. He should be more than happy to help out a regular customer who is willing to buy from him.

Exactly, and I will before buying. Trouble is he hasn't got hardly any older clubs in and I've not got the time to shop around places that do. Just curious what opinions other people have between the new clubs and the older ones.

I suppose my natural inclination is to be sceptical about something being good just because it's new.

This is a common thought among golfers because '5 yards longer' is harder to prove, than say, an iPhone going from a 6 megapixel camera to a 7 megapixel camera.

From testing the JetSpeed and meeting the design guys I can tell you it is a definite improvement and a great club, but that in no way makes it the ideal club for your unique swing. The only way to guarantee you're making the right purchase is to test all the clubs on the same day in the same conditions, which may involve going to a golf store in your case by the sounds of it.

Has he recently arrived from an AG/DG store?

While he may be correct, it's worth probing him on why he thinks the Jetspeed is better for you - and what you will gain from it. Was it him that sold you the Machspeed?

That said, at nearly 4 years old the Nike is close to the boundary of where I'd consider a replacement might be an 'improvement' (don't take my use of a nearly 10 yo Driver as anything but personal preference!).

As others have said, if you are hitting the Nike well, don't bother to change!
